2. McGovern tells it like it is; some in the US are too naive to understand

this though, including some at DU, but McGovern, an insider in Washington for many years, has a much better sense of reality.

And unfortunately, I think he is right on the money. Which is why your thread title, Postman, is exactly correct. I fear however that the naivete of Americans will mean that they, like the "good Germans", will swallow this hook, line, and sinker, not ask any questions, and go like obedient sheep into martial law...

Here's the quote from McGovern:

"How far would they go? With blood on their hands and God on their side, what actions would Bush & Co. consider too extreme – when the goal is to extend their control over the financial and military power of the American presidency?"

An elevated threat level justifying martial law and postponement of the election? No doubt such suggestions will seem too alarmist to those trusting that there is a moral line, somewhere, that the president and his senior advisers would not cross. I regret very much to say that their behavior over the past three years leaves me doubtful that there is such a line. If my doubts are justified, the sooner we all come to grips with this parlous situation the better.

3. This is one of my fears.

For this power hungry administration, the ends will justify the means.
It must. They will sacrifice principles to avoid being held accountable for criminal actions. Losing the election will not be an option.
