27. Smart, but has some odd opinions
Previously on Larry King, said that Colin Powell is the ideal person to be President...

Also said that Asscroft locking up Arabs with no trial has saved us from further terror.

And he claims to be a libertarian?

5. The reason is because of his relationship with ann coulter
this has nothing to do with first ammendment rights, coulter delibertly lies, and distorts everything. She is pathological, and that Maher even gives her the time of day shows what an idiot he is!

he flat out said to her "you just make shit up, don't you"? He knows. I despise Coulter, but Bill Maher is too awesome to hold that against him.

21. One can use the word fuck on DU...
you think it, you obviously believe it, we all know it f*** means fuck and you imply it, don't quite understand the asterisks for the cover up???

I love Bill Maher...however, I thinking he's not always well informed on certain issues. And comes out of nowhere with some right-wing off the shit wall sometimes...But mostly he's very liberal and progressive and not afraid to be "in-your-face" to anyone!

I know his "Libertarian" mask is just that, so the Republicans can't point the finger and say see, he's just a democrat and the democrats can't do the same...

Luckily for us, Maher is very progressive and is very funny in bringing forth his ideology...and it allows him to keep his party lifestyle intact.

it's just my style. And I don't care for Mr. Maher; I think he is an arrogant, smarmy f***. The fact that he sometimes says things we like does not change that.

29. more than Coulter, he spent most of 2000 trashing Gore
he was a Nader supporter.

I like that he is not afraid to say there is no god (I've always wondered how religious liberals react to that) and that he is now a Kerry supporter but I always hold my breath whenever I see him waiting for him to blow it all by saying something stupid.

It has been interesting to watch him change over the years. Like watching him grow up. Started as a comedian but became more political as he went along. Over the last 4 years he's learned that Nader and libertariansim is not an answer either. Maybe he thinks he has to be more responsible. I don't know if he hung out with Coulter because of sex, I think it was because both of them got a kick out of fucking with the system ("its all a big game, we get ink when we are outrageous, lets be outrageous, who the hell cares about "the man" anyway.) Then "the man" came down on him for something he said and his show got cancelled. Like Stern, it was a political awakening. You can ignore the man if you want but the man will not ignore you. Support Nader and you get Bush who is gonna censor you.

Someday he'll marry and have kids <gasp>.

9. Uhhh...HELLO? He's a COMEDIAN
Comedians need to entertain both sides of an issue, if even for symbolic reasons. If he only gives certain people the time of day he's going to wind up like Dennis Miller. Keep your enemies close.

35. Well from what I've heard
Bill has no problem getting sex. He is a fixture at the playboy mansion and has had relationships with multiple centerfolds. I love the guy personally even though sometimes I disagree with him vehemently. Thats the nature of politics. My take on Bill is that he absolutely loves the social side of the libertarian view (no war on drugs, no moral laws etc) but he really doesn't go for the strict laissez faire randian bullshit of libertarian economics. I think his show on HBO has been absolutely brilliant and honestly I think giving Coulter a forum on which to be debunked and mocked is a great idea. I wish she was on every week as she discredits herself every time she opens that lying yapper of hers.

10. Quick Snyposis: We Got Jesus Juice
It was great stuff...Mahrer endorses Kerry and couldn't hold back all his contempt for this regime.

When asked about Nader, Maher says he loves Ralph and how he's done great things but no one he knows that supported Nader in 2000 will do so now and all will go for Kerry. The line of the night: "we thought Gore/Bush was Coke/Pepsi, instead we got Coke and Jesus Juice!"

Lots of supportive callers and King's people interspersed it with snippets from Dave, Jon Stewart and Leno (shows how shallow and lame Leno is)...virtually a non-stop Bunnypants bash session.

It's interesting to watch the counter-culture resurface in 2004. Instead of underground newspapers and progressive rock radio stations, it's late night comedy shows and MTV.

BTW...Mahrer's "Fall Season" begins July 31! That along with Moore's movie and Clinton's book is gonna make for a very enjoyable summer!

13. I love the man
Yes, he absolutely screws up sometimes but he can't be all tings to all people. Last night he came out for Kerry and when King asked about Kerry's plan being similar to bush's, Bill said, "It's not the plan, it's the man.

Another gem here:

KING: Is all this, then, hypocrisy to you?

MAHER: What? Which part of it? I mean, there's so many aspects of it that are. Yes. But I do think that President Bush relies on hypocrisy. You know, even if you give him a credit that he's a nice guy and this was a sincere effort, you know, it's one thing to run an election based on two-dimensional platitudes, like, They hate us for our freedom. It's another thing to send men to die for a platitude like that.

14. One of the callers:
CALLER: Good evening. I have actually just a comment. I want to know why we are so protective of Iraq, when in actuality, the people of Iraq voted in Saddam Hussein originally?

KING: He didn't have much opposition.

CALLER: That is how he got into office.

MAHER: No, it's not. Are you kidding?

CALLER: That's what someone was telling me.

MAHER: Well, someone is an idiot. And you're not that bright yourself, excuse me, for believing it. That's like saying the people in the old Soviet Union were voted in. Yes, every dictator has elections, they're called shams.

I remember the last time Saddam was voted in. He got 99.9 percent of the vote. Do you think anyone voted for that? By the way, I saw the front page of the "New York Times" today. There is a picture of an Iraqi woman holding up a picture of someone who's gone missing in the Iraqi prison system, our Iraqi prison system. I saw this exact picture a year ago, an Iraqi woman holding up someone who disappeared under Saddam Hussein. Yes, Saddam's torture is worse than ours, but when you have that same picture, it looks awfully bad.

http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0406/02/lkl.00.html

It just shows the ignorance of many Americans.

23. He was excellent from beginning to end
What I like is that he 'gets things out there' that we think people know but they don't. For example he talked about how Bush never reads books or newspapers, never traveled abroad in his life, never had any interest in learning about any other place or culture, etc. and thus has this stupid two dimensional view of the world. Kerry on the other hand after so many years familiar with these subjects revolving around governing and governments knows cause and effect, nuances, etc. In other words what you have to do to really build strenght, coalitions, etc. around the world. He did a better job of defining what this election is all about and the contrast between the idiot and the person of insights than anything I've yet seen presented----and best of all, more people watching him say those things than any news anchor or talking head can reach.

34. I hate to ...
...make a correction that favors Bush, but he actually HAS been abroad more than most people know. In his youth, he spent some summers on a sheep farm in Scotland (belonging to a wealthy financier) and actually did some herding duties there. He went to the U.K. for a pal's wedding. He went to the U.K. when his dad was president (that's when he insulted the queen). He went to tour the Holy Land as an adult. Those are the trips I recall reading about.

Here's the story about the summers in Scotland:

25. I worked with Bill Maher once
It was a public venue, so I can talk about it....

He was performing at a college.

Threw an absolute fit when he wasn't provided with Scotch in his dressing room. Would NOT let go of it, he HAD to have his scotch; was incredibly arrogant and bullying. Treated everyone else there to serve his needs as if they were peeons.

Some very bizarrely slutty woman showed up--I don't know if she was a student or a groupie or what, but her "look" stood out from the rest of the crowd. She was throwing herself at him and he was eating it up, being grotesque.

Funny as hell onstage, but what an asshole behind the scenes.

41. When it comes to women ....
he seems to take over the role of Hugh Hefner in the world, ie. basically unattractive geeky guy who can get "hot chicks" because he's rich and famous. That's the one thing (and giving air time to Ann Coulter) that makes me want to just pinch his head off. He seems to have given up on having a real relationship with a real woman, preferring the groupie thing with Miss Plastic Tits o' the Day. How fucking pathetic.

Even so, I agree with a lot of things that he says "politically". He was great on Larry King.

funny. But on this occasion, he happened to be very right. He's extremely bold and fearless in stating his beliefs, and he hits the issues on the head....very sharp and pointedly. No one can put an issue in focus quite like Maher. And he's funny while he does it. (If only I were that gifted. Al Franken is pretty close, though.)
