Flopped

Reader r writes in:

George W. Bush last Feburary, on Meet The Press (emphasis added):

Russert: If the Iraqis choose, however, an Islamic extremist regime, would you accept that, and would that be better for the United States than Saddam Hussein?

President Bush: They're not going to develop that. And the reason I can say that is because I'm very aware of this basic law they're writing. They're not going to develop that because right here in the Oval Office I sat down with Mr. Pachachi and Chalabi and al-Hakim, people from different parts of the country that have made the firm commitment, that they want a constitution eventually written that recognizes minority rights and freedom of religion.

George W. Bush yesterday , Rose Garden press conference:

Q Thank you, Mr. President. Mr. Chalabi is an Iraqi leader that's fallen out of favor within your administration. I'm wondering if you feel that he provided any false information, or are you particularly --

THE PRESIDENT: Chalabi?

Q Yes, with Chalabi.

THE PRESIDENT: My meetings with him were very brief. I mean, I think I met with him at the State of the Union and just kind of working through the rope line, and he might have come with a group of leaders. But I haven't had any extensive conversations with him.
...

Q I guess I'm asking, do you feel like he misled your administration, in terms of what the expectations were going to be going into Iraq?

THE PRESIDENT: I don't remember anybody walking into my office saying, Chalabi says this the way it's going to be in Iraq.

...here's Bush with Chalabi on Turkee Day:

</snip>

I did not have sensitive conversations with that man, Mr. Chalabi.

1. extensitive
"I haven't had any extensitive conversations with him"

Listen to the transcript. He flubs the word because he's lying.

3. How is it...
Republicans have the worst memories?

No one could remember anything about Iran-Contra. Bush I couldn't remember his pledge not to raise taxes. Bush II can't remember people he meets, conversations he's had, or PDB's he's read.

Is it me or is it the crack he's smoking that causes these memory lapses?

He did say that Chalbi may have come in with a group of leaders, I wouldn't try to make too much out of the two statements:

THE PRESIDENT: My meetings with him were very brief. I mean, I think I met with him at the State of the Union and just kind of working through the rope line, and he might have come with a group of leaders. But I haven't had any extensive conversations with him.

I agree that Bush is obviously trying to cover his tracks, but let's not ignore portions of what he's saying in order to try and pull more out of the statements than what he said.

5. Comendable, but unwise
According to Bush*, they discussed the impossibility that Iraq would opt for an Islamic govt. I doubt those group of leaders came in and immediately started with "We don't think Iraq will turn into an Islamic govt". It sure sounds like an extensive conversation, complete with details.

8. Fair? The point is his degree of contact. The first post should have
highlighted THESE words also...

President bush*: They're not going to develop that.

Exactly how many conversations with someone do you have to have with a person before YOU become confident enough with a complex task to claim to be VERY aware of it? Now multiply that by infinity squared for dimson bush* and you come out with an ENORMOUS degree of contact.

And the idiot-in-chief couldn't remember saying that to Russert? Hahahaha! What a fool. Caught in another lie. Not that it will matter, mind you. I would like to know when some of this crap will stick to these people. They all should have been indicted months ago. :grr:
