I just got a call from Sy Hersch |
|
I called him earlier to ask him what he thought of the Tenet thing. He has no idea why this went down the way it did. Hersch, for my money, is perhaps the best journalist in the business right now.
Just thought that was interesting.

then he came back to the podium and announced Tenet's resignation... completely unprepared... and took no q's, of course.
Then he left for "Old Europe."

Have you noticed the "offensive" from the White House Talking Points Council?
Powell "War on Terrorism like fighting Nazis" Rice "Bush will be remembered like Churchill" Bush "War on Terror like World War II"
Rove has convinced them to be part of the greatest generalization.

It means, Bush&Co got outflanked by Tenet this time. I didn't see Bush today; I don't watch TV in the daytime. But if he seemed genuinely surprised that means Tenet caught the WH off guard.
See, I think Tenet and Gore talked a little before Gore's speech. If they are really good friends as Al said, it would only be the decent thing to do to call George up and let him know Al's calling him out in the speech.
Al could have convinced Tenet this would be a good time to leave.

32. No, Bush. I didn't talk to Hersh. |
|
I was just watching Bush's face as a poker player.
I don't mean that Bush was surprised on the instant, since the decision, as reported, was made last night. It seemed to me that Bush really wished this wasn't happening.
It could mean a lot of things. My absolute first guess is a divergence in principle. When you can't paper that over, someone's got to go. And of course, I don't really expect Bush to resign.
One (of hundreds) of possiblilities. Tenet saw sworn testimony on his part coming and won't lie under oath. He dodged well before, but sometimes they get you in the cross-hairs.

It's getting hard to tell what is them stepping all over themselves due to over reaching..and what is the "turd throwing tennis ball machine" they've been operating since day 1. I still think the Chalabi thing is to create a case for invading Iran...it's just TOO convenient and Iran's denials lead me to think it's possible if not probable.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's at a loss in figuring out what's going on with Tenet.
There have been some ominous events recently (Chalabi accused of being Iranian spy, Bush gets lawyer vis a vis Plame affair, DCI quits), and I sure haven't been able to put the pieces together in any way that fits. They are just lying there on the floor all separate and unconnected, mocking me...

As a newbie, slack is cut. Before spouting off, sit back and read the forum for a couple of weeks. You'll find that Mr. Pitt is a NYT best selling author who wrote the book before the invasion of Iraq that made an excellent case that there were no WMD's left in IraqNam.
And, obtw, I'm impressed as hell with the call he got. I love to hear from Mr. Pitt and his latest writings.
Stick around, keep your poweder dry for a time. Interesting stuff here.

Since they needed to make Tenent the fall guy at some point anyway, may as well do it when they're eager to replace the other big news:
Der Chimp hired an attorney because of the federal grand jury investigation of the Valarie Plame "leak."
Can't have that big ol' headline hanging out there. Must distract the public. Trot out Tenent.

72. Was Tenet behind the raid on Chalabi's office? Is he in possession of |
|
it's contents?
It sounded to me like Chalabi has collected some incriminating info on various people and if Tenet has it.....then perhaps he DOES have the upper hand and the element of surprise.

88. I have it on "good Authority" that Sy's Sources are,indeed |
|
Within the CIA. They were in 1969-they still are. Tenet was "pushed on his own sword".
