Nader Remains Skeptical About Kerry
Edited on Thu Jun-03-04 08:05 PM by ann_coulter_is_a_man
I don't like Kerry's "wait and see" attitude on progressive issues, either. i remember getting sold out for 8 years by clinton/gore and i need a little more than a "trust me" and wink from the senator

Nader Remains Skeptical About Kerry

By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader (news - web sites) said Thursday he still has some reservations about Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites), particularly on energy conservation issues.

In a speech at the National Press Club, Nader recalled a recent meeting with his Democratic rival.

"He was telling me how strong he was going to be on energy efficiency and energy renewability when he is elected president, as he put it," Nader said.

Nader said he asked Kerry why more progress hadn't been made on those issues, although Massachusetts Sen. Kerry and other Democrats have pushed for changes for years.

"How are you going to break the opposition of the fossil fuel industry and the nuclear industry" to the conversion of the country to renewable energy, Nader said he asked.

"To which he said: "Wait and see when I become president."

A few do, sure.

Personally, I think Nader is a liar and I for one don't feel sold out by Clinton/Gore.

14. Same here...
What can we do? Certainly this election cannot be a protest vote against the Dems. There is far too much at stake...

But then I don't really think Kerry is going to keep his campaign promises...color me skeptical.

3. He was also sceptical about Wellstone, Holt
Regarding Senators Russ Feingold (D-WI) and Paul Wellstone (D-MN), Nader said that he is willing to sacrifice them because "that's the price they're going to have to bear for letting their party go astray."

Nader was quoted in Mother Jones magazine as saying that "(Rush) Holt deserves to lose." July 2001, Mother Jones magazine.
Holt, however, has a 100% voting record rating from Americans for Democratic Action, and many other liberal organizations.

Nader is an egomanical danger to our country.

It's nice to see Nader being more obvious about his political sympathies this year, since he's running on the same line once held by his Nazi good buddy, Pat Buchanan, the Reich, whoops I mean, Reform Party.

13. Everyone should view Kerry carefully
Holding him to a high standard is good, not bad. I think most people agree he should receive a progressive's vote in November, but one can still remain skeptical of Kerry while supporting him for the presidency.

17. Everyone should view NADER carefully
as well... Unfortunately that doesn't generally happen. He's not really in a position of much scrutiny himself, yet he feels compelled to scrutinize others.

What a total joke this guy is. And a dangerous one at that.

18. Very true. Too many believe Nader's rhetoric about himself
His rhetoric about others is far more accurate. Please people, do take a look at his protfolio and financial dealings, or do a search for one of the many threads here on the subject. There is a lot of hypocrisy there--not so much to make him unique as a politician, but as the 'conscience candidate' who is supposed to oppose corporate evil, it's pretty disappointing.

But ANY politician should not be taken at face value, or even at major media value.

15. "Wait and see when I become president."
And he would accept this answer himself?! This is totally NADER. He gives vague answers to questions whilst being critical of politicians who actually have to participate in our democracy.

He is playing people for fools, and loving every minute of it. What a shame he makes such a mockery of liberals. :(

You didn't suggest it yourself, but you seemed to be attacking me for not agreeing with the other poster. If that's a misunderstanding I apologize for the confusion.

-----------------------

Both sides described the tone of the meeting as courteous and not contentious, and a Kerry campaign official said the candidate was prepared to continue the dialogue as the campaign year goes along. Similarly, Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe has kept an open line to Nader, mindful of Nader's complaints that he was shunned by Gore and the party four years ago, although McAuliffe never fails to urge Nader to give up his candidacy.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A41036-2004May19.html

Following the meeting, Nader said the two discussed a variety of issues, but Kerry never asked him to abandon his independent campaign.

“He’s a gentleman and he understands we all have to do what we have to do, as he put it,” Nader said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5008072/

Nader, who posed for pictures inside with Kerry but uncharacteristically avoided reporters outside, issued a statement calling the session "productive and positive." Kerry campaign aide Steve Elmendorf described it as "very friendly" and "useful."

In a telephone interview, Nader said the talks revolved largely around issues on which both agree, including "ending corporate welfare as we know it" and avoiding "a repeat of the Katherine Harris situation," a reference to the disputed Florida vote count in the last presidential election.
