Sally Quinn on "Nightline" just said that.....
the Right Wing is making a HUGE mistake to smear and discredit George Tenet. By doing this they will be showing that Bush has something to hide.

Also, she said that the timing of Tenet's "going out" is questionable.

2. Sally said that attempts to blame Tenet will backfire
and that the campaign to scapegoat Tenet has already begun and is a huge mistake because the people at CIA keep notes and take names.

4. She also said, when asked by Koppel whether he was pushed or
jumped, "Both."

Earlier, Senator Levin said Tenet had seen, read, made notes and suggestions about the highly critical report(s) coming out and could see the handwriting on the wall that if he didn't leave he'd be forced to.

All of them basically held to the misconception (lies) that the whole WMD fiasco was the CIA's fault. I just don't recall it that way -- the CIA and Tenet himself were forced to hew to and support the Bush Admin line on WMD.

6. Plus DDO James PAVITT quit, too.
Second top official to quit CIA

The latest move follows the resignation of George Tenet

A second top CIA official is to retire from his post, less than a day after the surprise resignation of the agency's director George Tenet.

James Pavitt, deputy director for operations, who was in charge of the agency's spies, is said to have made the decision some weeks ago.

The CIA says Mr Pavitt's decision was unconnected with Mr Tenet's departure.

But analysts say the move will mean more upheaval at a critical time for the agency.

7. Earlier today on Air America she said the following....
That the "personal reason" was probably true. Tenet is truly concerned about his family. They have all been trained in "anti-terrorist" techniques. She told how he had been driving on his own, with guards behind him, when the windshield blew. He slumped over the wheel and his wife grabbed it to control the car. It turned out to be a deer hitting the car--I remember reading that story when it happened. Anyway, they were very shaken up because they thought it was a terrorist coming after them. Their anxiety about this increased after this even.

But she also added: that Tenet had fallen on his sword for Bush many times and it was known that he'd be out...but she felt that Tenet had "had enough."

So that's what she meant when she said "both" personal and being pushed.

My take: He was going to be pushed out when the Bushitas felt it would be a good move, but Tenet took control and decided on his own terms. The July 11 date is exactly his hire date...so it's a retirement money situation. I'm sure he has vacation time, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's out before then.
