Why do people say all agencies were wrong about WMD?
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 08:52 AM by dennis4868
I keep hearing over and over that every intelligence agency was wrong about WMD, not simply the CIA. But it is fact that the DIA, DOE, INR, and the intelligence wing of the Air Force all argued before the war that they all had serious doubts about the case that Bush and his thugs were making about Iraq and WMD.

Also, what about this? http://msnbc.msn.com/id/3340723

One more time I hear a TV pundit say that the entire intelligence community agreed with Bush about the WMD calim I am going to blow my top off!

2. And the BS about how "all" countries believed in the WMD
omits the fact that 1) all of those countries were relying on our conclusions as the key data point in their analysis, and 2) many, if not most, countries disagreed with many of our key statements about particulars

3. History has been changed
None of the intelligence agencies thought we had hard evidence of WMDs. They were told to find it by Cheney, and it was "found".

4. They make it look like
that we went to war on Iraq based on faulty intelligence. The decision to go to war was made and then they looked for intelligence to support it. Tenet was just serving his masters. All this faulty intelligence stuff is bull shit.

7. I thought that Tenet made GW take the WMD reference out of one speech
Does anyone remember that story?

8. Is there any evidence yet that Tenet made the "slam dunk" remark?
No one has ever asked him directly. What if he denies he said that? If he did really say that to Bush then it's right for Tenet to resign. But where was the CIA getting its information? The Niger memo was alleged to have been traced to Israel (in an Israeli newspaper...looking for the link). Who gave the US or the CIA information on WMDs and Niger?
I have a feeling that Tenet is taking the fall and that his he and his family have been threatened otherwise. Just a gut feeling after watching his farewell address.

9. Because that spin lets Bush off the hook...just as blaming IWR for the war
instead of Bush's DISHONEST circumvention of the IWR.

The rightwing spin machine knows exactly how to jerk the media around and bring the reactionary left along for the ride.

10. They can rewrite the "history" in our kids' schoolbooks, but
the rest of the world knows.

And they will remember.
