Farenhet 9/11 - you know this is kind of an exciting moment... |
|
... when a piece of art (which a documentary film certainly is) can change the way people think about their lives. This doesn't happen very often; television is rarely art and surely nobody takes it seriously anyway?

1. Documentary Nut here. This is esp. thrilling for me, who has been |
|
the butt of countless jokes by friends because of my obsession with watching documentaries instead of sitcoms. (A holdover from my youth, when mom would say, "Come in here & watch this! It's good for you!)
Now others are beginning to see the value in documentaries (besides providing absolute trivia about countless, useless subjects).

2. Let's just hope the media actually covers it |
|
in a fair way and that a lot of people go see it.
If more then just folks from the left go see it, then I think it could be a tipping point.

4. Um, the media has already covered it.. |
|
..and in a very fair way, at that. Were you asleep when every media source was abuzz about the movie? And its not even out yet.
Roger Ebert, for example, gave it a glowing review..

3. Fahrenheit 9/11 may be a tipping point... |
|
...but it won't cause a sea change.
As much as I love Michael Moore's films, they are not pure documentaries, in that they have an agenda above and beyond the imparting of information and the exploration of their subject matter.
His films are interesting, informative, entertaining, and provoke lots of questions, but they are also crafted to promote a certain view point.
Those who go into the film confused may receive some clarity. But those who have already made up their minds one way or the other will just be further emboldened, either pro or anti Bush.
