Is the economy a winning issue for Democrats or Republicans ?
Bush took time out from his campaign tour in Europe today to brag about the new job creation from last month. Repub spokesmen were all over the TV today pushing the good news. Have you noticed that when Democrats are in office, they usually have 3 years and 6 months of good economy and 6 months of poor economy and they get charged with presiding over a "bad" economy? But it is just the opposite with Repubs, they usually have 3 years and 6 months of "bad" economy and 6 months of good economy and they get credit for presiding over a "good" economy? They tried the same trick wih Poppy Bush.

2. Everyone Knows Someone Who Is Unemployed
And we all know folks who are a paycheck away from the street.

This will not help the Republicans, they are vunerable no matter what the news reports say as long as personal experience dictates a person believe otherwise

3. consumer confidence is down even with jobs making a comeback
the reason is higher inflation--including high energy prices--that will hurt Bush much more than the unemployment figures because inflation affects everyone.

4. Good economy? Where?
Unemployment is virtually unchanged, the stock market is still below where it was when Bush was annointed, we have a record budget deficit and debt, we have a record trade deficit, record high oil prices, interest rates are set to rise, and American jobs are being shipped to India or taken over by illegal aliens.

But, yeah, other than that, things are peachy.

5. Hey, bring on the draft...
... don't extend unemployment benefits ...

... and creatively shift numbers 'accounting wise' ...

... and the employment numbers will go up even MORE!

We really should do something about 'gross headcount' and go more for Salaries, since they really are the base for a strong economy.

It's one thing having 1,000,000 employed.. but if 200,000 of those have gone from white to blue collar... your total base will actually be lower.
