2. Ok I know the absolute worst scifi film ever made. It is
The Creeping Terror. Do you have any nominations?

11. Worst Science Fiction Film Without Doubt: ROBOT MONSTER
It makes Plan 9 From Outer Space look like Casablanca. This is a 1953 film shot on a budget of about $25 grand. I saw it several years ago on late night TV. The producer was short on cash and so he grabbed whatever props were available to make the monster, including a gorilla suit and a diving helmet with an old TV antenna that was attached to the top. The gorilla-suited, diving-helmet-with-TV-antenna wearing monster has a bubble machine that emits bubbles from his cave and communicates with his home planet through a wooden TV set. I pity the poor actor who had to run up and down hills in that suit in 100+ summer temperatures in Bronson Canyon, California. The very, very odd thing about this movie however is how wonderful the score is. The music is so good that it lends an almost surrealistic feel to the movie, as there is a complete breakdown between ridiculous ultra low-budget images and the music. The score was written by a young then-unknown Elmer Bernstein, who went on to later write the scores to such films as "The Magnificent Seven" and "The Great Escape".

9. Excellent combination
Of low-brow camp (that 15 minute fight scene in the alley? "Put... The.... Glasses... ON!...") mixed with an Orwellian metaphor on yuppies, brainwashing, and the age of Reagan. Man, you can't beat it--- not even with a garbage can lid.

You may recognize the almost transparent background image on my blog, by the way:

10. And a few years later, John Carpenter made ESCAPE FROM L.A.
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 11:43 PM by MetaTrope
With its batshit crazy fundamentalist president imprisoning people for practicing Islam and poised to plunge the Earth into nuclear darkness (but only after he supervises the execution of his rebellious teenage daughter).

I'm more frightened to see what Carpenter makes next, than I have been by his actual films...
