So, I totally misjudged my father-in-law's political beliefs.
My father-in-law works for Haliburton. He's played golf with Dick Cheney. He owns a signed book by David Frum. He's rich, old and white. He has never given any indication of being anything other than the Canadian equivalent of a Republican.
We've got an election coming up here at the end of the month. My in-laws had a big falling out row at the weekend. Why? My father-in-law wants to put a candidate sign on the lawn. Apparently he's a life-long dyed in the wool left-leaning Liberal. You could have knocked me down with a feather.
I suppose I should've known, he is a Cape Bretoner, but that took me by surprise. We'd never, ever discussed politics, because I was so sure of what his were. I was dead wrong.

1. So....
Did your mother-in-law object to the candidate he supported or just the idea of having a sign on the lawn?

6. Hold your friends close...

Hold your enemies closer.

Trite, but often true. And I can understand this even more in a business environment. In some cases it even allows one to work under the radar, not drawing attention to the real opinions, which can be quite beneficial at times.
