Gore Vidal, about *, on Democracy Now!

Those who missed Gore Vidal on Majority Report may want to watch/listen/read him at this link.

3. I hate to say it but
there's something almost unbearable about trying to listen to this guy.

Maybe it's the pretentiousness he seems to have. Maybe it's the painfully slow cadence of his speech (I know, I know, he's old) which seems to imply that we have nothing better to do with our lives but wait for him to think of the most deliciously (to him) poetic ways to make his points ......

I don't know, in short I find him to be quite the windbag.

5. I know.

I prefer his age-mate Studs Terkel ( http://www.studsterkel.org/ ), but Vidal, despite his pretentious tone, still comes up with some good insights and some wonderful phrases. Sort of like hip-hop is not my style, but the meaning is the message that matters. And I do delight in a well-turned phrase, however arrived at, when it reveals an important truth.

(edit: completed thought, partly)

7. Yeah. Maybe I should just read what he says
and not listen to him.

8. Mike Malloy
(Damn I miss him!) had some callers whose "redneck" accent was so thick that I (who grew up in (partly) that linguistic environment) could hardly listen, but the content was very worth hearing. Vidal's "accent" may be a bit hard to listen to, but he is, no less, one of "us" and not one of "them."

9. He is a very kind man and a true...
patriot. You really should find something nice to say about him...or hold your tounge.

10. I LOVE HIS IMITATION OF BUSH* saying I AM A WAR TIME PRESIDENT.
How he uses the "I" pronoun when saying he is going to invade everybody. He says no president has ever said "I" will declare war. It should be "We" when talking about America.
He feels that America is naked...because there are no representative media either.

11. Al Gore is his cousin... and he says Kerry has to hit some of
the main themes that exist with the "war president" to gather popular support.
Gore blood finally became evident (after putting Gore Vidal to sleep in 2000) in Al Gore's speech in NYU and he spoke like the president we never got.
