What would happen if Bush literally cracked?
http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/printer_4636.shtml

OK, so the source is questionable. Still...

What would happen if he lost it on national TV, had a tantrum, got physically violent? Can he be declared mentally unfit to serve? What's the process here?

8. A Bush story you might not know.
Read the section on the Texas Rangers in the baseball history book Legends of Baseball.
The interviewer asks the majority owner if George Bush, a minority owner, runs the Rangers team. When the owner says he does not, the interviewer repeats that he indeed heard George Bush runs the day to day operation. The majority owner exclaims "no he doesn't run the team and don't you tell him."

4. Not only would I start scream-laughing...
(because my history teacher is always screaming "I'm going to crack soon!)... but I would also start cracking up, then eventually I might feel a bit sorry for him.

5. Yes
The 25th amendment provides for such a case. The Vice-President and a majority of the cabinet secretaries can declare the President unable to discharge his duties, in which case the Vice-President assumes the duties as acting President.

If the President objects, an emergency session of Congress is called, and each house must then vote. If 2/3rds of each house vote that the President is, in fact, unable to discharge his duties, the Veep remains acting president.

9. thanks
It seems likely Bush's cabinet would never acknowledge it.

Could Congress overrule the cabinet?

14. It doesn't look like it, but I'm not a lawyer.
Read the 25th amendment for yourself. Section 4 is the pertinent part.

15. He'll pretend to collapse...
And they'll say that he had some sort of illness, sign the succession act, and Chenney will make a few campaign stops telling people to prey for the President's health. That'll be the end of it.

16. I'm glad you asked, WT.
We really should ponder this. According to some threads here, Bush really is falling apart. The man has become so worthless, "falling while bike riding", a recent seizure, and his speech was really hard to follow yesterday when he shared the news about George Tenet.

What if the Old Boy really becomes incompetent? Like he starts speaking in tongues; some ancient sumerian language? Or he becomes so incoherent that medication doesn't work any more.

Pretty soon, even Mr. & Mrs. Joe Average will notice. They'll point to the TV screen and marvel. "Look!" "He's slurring. He's got spit hanging out of his mouth. His eyes are focused on the ceiling"

he heh. They giggle and look at each other, and speculate on his demise as they crack open another beer can. They know. George is finished.

Well, for one: expect them to hide him even more. (jeez, what fitting punishment for those bastards!). We'll see lots of past footage of the charmer. There will be rumours swirling like tornadoes in Washington. Everybody will be speculating, "Where's Dodo?" And it will fail, like everything else they've tried.

17. it is very distrubing that Mr. & Mrs. Joe Average hasn't figured it out
that SOB has NEVER been competent, but they didn't care because they figured he'd "surround himself with good people"; how wrong they were and we are all paying for it.

18. See : 25th Amendment.

The problem is : if Bush were to be deemed mentally unfit to perform the duties of his office, the baton would then pass to Dick Cheney. Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

......he'd stuff the economy, antagonise half of the world, take the country into an impossible war....and tell everybody that everything was just dandy.
