let's not name airports, bathrooms or schools after his disgracefullness. let's not let the rightwing reagan cultists drown us in tales of reagan's glory or magnificent accomplishments, let's remind the world that reagan was not admirable or heroic or laudible for anything other than being great at reading lines and stirring up shit. the whole nation turned hard right when he stepped in, and it hasn't let up yet. fuck all that noise.

Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 07:12 AM by daveskilt
let's see ordinary infuriating repulican with a dash of crazy or despotic chimp?

bush makes even me have warm fuzzies about the days of reagan when at least we could be sure that if enough people voted against him he would be out.

6. And the S&L scandal and his massive spending and his
calling ketchup a vegetable and his pig-headed attitude toward a new disease, solely because it affected a group of people he hated (the joke's on you raygun, your hetero buddies got AIDS too.)

In 1964, he openly spoke against the civil rights movement but that's beyond the scope of Reagan as president, so I can't use that one. x(

That fucker shouldn't be celebrated at all. He's a doddering old braindead fogie (who'd been that way long before he took presidency, no less) at best and an outright criminal at worst.

3. Thankfully, Rushmore is not an option.
First, there is no more stable rock on which to carve another face.

And second, any work on the mountain would risk the existing faces, which need massive stabilization right now just to hold them up.

The rest of what you said, A-FUCKING-MEN.

13. I wonder if they'll find another mountain to make a molehill out of...
And at what cost to the taxpayer... it seems apropos that we're in the massive debt Reagan created and we spend several hundred million more just to carve his stone-like face into a stone. :eyes:

At least the dime deal didn't go through.

28. I heard a rumor that
Lakota boys would climb up Rushmore and piss down Teddy's nose as a political statement and a rite of passage. My son says that he doesn't think they can do it anymore because the security is so high.

The sculptor that did Mt.Rushmore had no plans for anyone else. Besides dynamite can't do the wrinkles. Its just like that.

8. No
We should blast off the faces of Lincoln and Jefferson and Replace then with Ronnie and the Chimp he did the Bonzo movies with.

He was a bad actor who parlayed that into being elected President. If that doesn't deserve enshrinement on Rushmore then something is wrong with America. Inteptitude(only by Repubs) should be rewarded.

I can't wait till he does go so we can hear the 30 days of crying about it from the righties.

12. let's not forget his date rape scandal & womanizing
Clinton was often accused of these things, but, reagan actually did have a checkered past. as did nancy, the former first lady. she was known as the biggest whore in hollywood, but she demands respect now.

14. In Florida, they named the turnpike after him...it's perfect!
See, I paid for the road once already, and now I get to pay for it ALL OVER AGAIN, every time I drive on it!

It makes perfect sense when seen in the context of his economic policies.

25. Another Highway named after him
In Hamilton County, Ohio (Cincinnati) the Repug controlled county commission named the Cross-County Highway after him. This was a roadway that had been under design and construction for at least 40 years and always called "the Cross County Highway". Needless to say, Reagan had no connection to the area.

17. Everytime I hear the fundies glorifying him I want to puke!
I remember the Reagan years very well. I got my first apartment just after he was elected. Not long after that I lost my job and was forced to move back home with my parents. McJobs were the only kind available, much like today, and things didn't improve a whole lot until President Clinton was elected in '92. After Clinton was elected I made a lot more money and was even able to back to school. I sure wish someone would tell me exactly what it was that made Red Ink Ronnie so great.

18. He was no supporter of unions, either
Remember what happened with the air traffic controllers?

Reagan was also responsible for the big push behind contracting out Federal jobs. During the 1980 campaign, he painted Federal employees as a bunch of lazy, overpaid, money-grubbing, goldbricking slackers.

We STILL hate him for that.

in their rapturous praise of st. raygun.

how was he the "greatest president since lincoln?"

i like the way one freeper quoted someone that said "reagan made us feel safer."

funny, i was a kid/teenager through those years, but i could still suss that their was plenty of anxiety over the prospect of imminent global thermonuclear war . . .
