Reagan haters, thanks for showing me that
it's time I take a break from this spiritually enlightened group. Color me weird, but I, er, hate hate. That's why, I think, I'm a liberal.

Last night I watched a movie with my 14 year old daughter and my wife. The movie had possiblities except for the gratuitous and wanton use of the f word (for you gratuitous and wanton people, that's FUCK). Of course, this masterpiece of art was laden with many sexual scenes that, ironically, turned me off. (sidebar: I'm a "normal" guy who loves to f, uh, fun, er, have fun, yeah, a normal guy who loves to have fun)

Anywho, what the Pope (sidebar: I'm a fallen away Catholic who despises the hypocrisy of the church) said, (or at least tried to spit it out, from what I hear) about the decaying Western culture is, in my humid opinion, right on the money (our God, of course). You're sharp, you can see it everywhere in our culture. It's become "cool" apparently. Well, so has hating.

We see so many people blown away on tv that when it happens in real life it's no big deal. Our western culture has become inhumanly and, more importantly, inhumanely desensitized to the point of sorrow.

So let's kick Reagan when he and his family are down. God knows you have a right to do that because you're the only one on this planet that knows anything. You've never done anything stupid or shameful. So, like the guards in Abu Gharib, get some sadistic verbal kicks in there and it'll make you feel like a real hard ass. Screw the family that's going through hell. Ronnie was a politician and a Republican at that. That translates to his inherent beastly being.

Those who hope that he goes to hell are a disgrace to not only our party but our culture. Maybe those are the people that haven't been through sorrow or tragedy, much like the Chicken Hawks, who espouse the toughness of our country while not being able to relate to the horrors of real war. It's only a movie anyway, right?

I gotta take a break from this place (and after only a tad over a hundred posts). I'm allergic to hate, but I'll keep working at it. Because you're right and I'm wrong. If I don't like this selfish culture, by God I should leave it. What a fucking whimp I am!

Don't bother flaming me because I'm outta here and don't even want to read any more of this chicken shit. I do wish you a splendid summer and a wait-free pass into heaven when you drop dead.

Your best pal,

Stew in Ohio

Reagan's policies kicked many families when they were down. Kicked 'em so far down they never recovered. People died because of his policies.

Remember this, though: Reagan's legacy is a matter of life or death for many people both inisde and outside this forum, and for all too many people, that legacy leans towards DEATH.

6. I'm not participating in the "beat up" old Ronnie threads.
Not being a religious person, however, I don't understand what you object to when people say he's going to hell. Don't all Christians believe there is a Heaven and a Hell? If so, isn't Hell where people who did bad things go? It is pretty well documented that Reagan and his administration were responsible for destruction, suffering and the death of people in America and other countries. So, I'd say he deserves to go south.

I agree that sometimes people go over the top with their hatred of repukes, but don't let that make you leave permanently. I leave on occasions after south-bashing gets to be too much. Just take a break!

DU is a free and open board and intolerance exists here just as it does in any community.

11. Ronald Reagan
closed down psychiatric hospitals that greatly contributed to the homeless problem, did NOTHING about the AIDS crisis, and I could go on and on. I am a loving and spiritual person, imho the current administration is not and they must go. I hope that Reagan passes soon for 1) his sake and that of his family 2) so it won't effect the election. That's all.

18. When we follow personalty not policy we lose our essential Americaness
Reagan was one man who helped us walk down the plank of rejecting science in favor of the religious right view of the environment-James Watt was a harbinger of the disdain for scientific studies of the environment-Also we get to Osama-who is a creature of Reagan "blow back"-no 9/11 without Taliban movement we encouraged to take on Soviets-was it a good move-I guess you have to ask the families of the 9/11 dead if it was a good move- are we safer for that policy-I don't know but Reagan helped start it-Also the evil Iraqis dictator was propped up by him again in a bargain with the devil to counter the Iranian danger-the Iraq war is traced to his doorstep-what if we stayed neutral in the Iran/Iraq war? Would Saddam survive it?-just think-no Iraqis invasion of Kuwait-no gulf war 2, no Tim McVeigh, No DC sniper-He also created "voodoo economics" and huge budget debts carried on the back of the middle class-his legacy lives on-I don't hate Reagan-I disagree strongly with his policies and don't see how that relates to your point about raunchy movies

So suddenly the guy is a Saint because he's old and dying? It doesn't work that way. He lived his life as a shallow, superficial, selfish cartoon, and that's how he will be remembered. Nancy is no Mother Theresa either, she is just doing what thousands of others do everyday 24/7, and if the Reagans had their way, without any help from anyone. "Let them eat ketchup"

24. Well, OK. Here's some advice.
I have been hanging around here for about 10 months. I like it a lot. I have been in a few ugly fights here, especially during the primaries. Things are said (usually not personal). I do not and you should not take everything here seriously. It's just a message board. Things will be said and it doesn't make a damn difference in the scheme of things what they are. I saw the Reagan thread. I had nothing to say, but it's expected on a Democratic message board. Try posting the same thing at freeperville regarding FDR, Carter or Clinton. They would delete it and ban the poster. It would be a disaster if they didn't. So step away from the keyboard, get a grip of reality and come back if you want.

Fuck Hate.

I was going to say "I agree" but I wanted to be more succinct.

The thing is, you're going to have a hard time finding a message board as lively as this where the participants think more like you. It's an Us vs. Them world. Both sides are the same, just the names change.

The "Can't we all just get along?" crowd is a small minority, in my opinion. I believe that is because we were raised to hate. When I was growing up, I was taught to hate the Russians.

At least they tried to teach me that, but I never could quite understand it. Because I was also taught to "Hate the actions, not the person." However, I could not understand that because war still existed. To me, war was hate.

I have a camera that my dad, my proud, decorated veteran of WWII and Korea dad, gave me that he retrieved from a Korean soldier that he killed. To me, that camera respresents hate. My dad was a great person and I never think ill of him for killing that soldier, but I hate the fact that he was compelled to kill him and take his camera.

That camera also represents love to me. Because I cannot help but imagine what pictures were taken with it by the original owner. I prefer to believe that the camera was used to take pictures of babies, and little kids running around and family portraits when everybody is squeezing into the frame trying to hold a smile... I'd rather not believe that it used to take pictures of dead Americans to be sent back home to show off his trophies or used as a tool to incite more hatred.

Anyway, I have no idea where I am going with this and it probably doesn't matter anyway, if you truly aren't reading responses to this thread and nobody here much cares what I have to say... but, I'll keep coming back because there's less hatred on this board than on others and there's a lot of posters here that I like to read.

Aww, the hell with it... I'm going to Hempfest...

Who would you rather attend a BBQ with asks the media pollsters? The man who fucks over the poor, disavantaged, blacks, or the other guy? My guess based on your post, you'd rather go to the BBQ with Bush after all, he's perceived as a nice guy for some dumb reason. Just as Reagan is. These guys are not nice men...they extend help only to the wealthy and corporations.

I haven't contributed to Saint Ronnie's threads myself, because I don't see the point. He wasn't in charge anyway- much like Bush Jr.

But Reagan's administration hurt ALOT of people. They earned the hatred. As long as we've got this "play nice" pussy attitude you're talking about, we're going to keep getting exploited by corrupt people like those from the Reagan and Bush administrations.

48. Pals help each other, and not run at the first inconvenience.
You're right about society...

Maybe the hatred of Reagan is wrong and disgusting. Looking at his policies and actions, and the policies and actions of those who have replaced him, some dislike is certainly not uncalled for. Especially when we are the losing party, being drowned in neo-conservative "values" and ideals that hurt everybody they touch, unless you're at the top 1% of the pay scale.

We're all human. And I normally pity the inhuman. But the inhuman are in power.

Moralize all you want. Reality is a far different story and we need to change current reality to make such moralizing THE reality. And if that involves being inhuman toward the inhuman, well that's fine by me.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

as to affect the lives (and deaths) of hundreds and thousands of people in my own country and abroad. YES...AMERICANS ARE SELFISH IN THEIR UNENDING IGNORANCE OF HOW THEIR GOVERNMENT'S POLICY AFFECTS OTHER PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD. it's also selfish to excuse the behavior of americans (including american presidents) by constructing so phoney hate vs. love dichotomy. that's why we had a coup in this country with barely a peep of protest...etiquette too often trumps doing the right thing.
i will shed no tears for reagan, or what he stood for and against. his legacy is a shameful one, and his soul is his own business.

its too bad you're not going to respond to any replies to this thread (I'm pretty sure you're still reading it though) what I wanna know is WTF (for you non-gratuitous and non-wanton people, that stands for WHAT THE FUCK? err, f fun) does the "gratuitous and wanton use of the F word" in a movie have to do with anything?

I suspect what you are getting at is this: woe is the state of modern western culture, if only we could revisit the nostalgic halcyon days, that never existed btw, that Reagan built his political career on.

As far as the Reagan family "going through hell" if you have ever had a loved one who suffered through a lengthy struggle with a debilitating disease such as Alzheimer's you would know that there is a often a sense of relief upon the death of the loved one.

Quality of life matters. It is more hellish to witness the day-to-day diminishing of quality of life than the actual passing.

The Reagan family has had lots of time to prepare for Ronnie's death and I'm sure that they will be at peace with the event of his passing no matter what the evil DU'ers have to say about it.

In fact as reported by 60 minutes II his illness may have served to bring the family closer together than they ever were when Ronnie had all of his faculties.

The Reagan's Long Goodbye

snip

Differences of opinion have plagued the Reagans and their children down the years - and sometimes their difficulties were played out in public.
But now, the Cold War within the Reagan family has ended. Was it the president's illness that sparked the reconciliation?

"I suppose it helped. But then, as you grow older, you know, on their part, as they grew older," says Nancy. "It was a hard time. But things change. And you begin to remember just the good times and not the bad times.”

Today, Patti, the Reagan's daughter, is often at her mother’s side. She has written about her father’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease, and its effects on her mother: "My mother's eyes are frequently such deep wells that I have to look away."

60. "desensitized to the point of sorrow"
oh the horror and inhumanity of not being able to protect your wife and 14 yr old daughter from the evil of the f-word on cable TV.

More proof that the end times are upon us.

However, I'm not very broken up about it either

56. Stew, when Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton die...
... I hope you'll run over to some conservative sites and hold up your mantle with pride, and prejudice. Make sure to tell them you're never coming back, 'k?

57. I no longer dislike Ronnie and Family, they are no longer relevent
except in the minds of people who think he was a hero. He did a lot of bad for this country, but Im not going to personally wish ill or pain on his family even though the scars he caused for some still hurt them to this day.

59. Boy am I glad I stayed out of these threads...
kicking the dead, dying or down doesn't look good on anyone...
I don't have anything good to say about Reagan, and that's where Mom's advice kicks in "If you can't say something good, don't say anything"....

63. Agreed.
I just logged in and trying to catch up. I saw the postings last night. I read them, disagreed with some of them, and did not respond to any of them.

Just to let you all know, I am hovering around +100 posts, but you have not scared me away. I like reading different viewpoints even though I may not agree. I don't expect everyone to agree with me.

Bully post. As someone caring for one of my family with alzheimer's I find sniping more than just petty.

66. Ronnie hoodwinked everyone with pseudo-style over substance
and it has reached its inevitable stage with the warped stage-crafting of Dubya.

Ronnie Reagan was a doddering old fool, and a criminal. We don't hate him for what he is now, he isn't anything now. We hate him for what he was, for what he did, for what he didn't do, for the way he thought, for his total lack of mercy to the unfortunates in society.

Reagan was the first Great Pretender, and now America will never be free of them.

Doddering old fool yet great hoodwinker. Not only is he dumb as a sack of rocks, he's an evil demented genius as well!
