On Now: Chirac Speaking, * Looking Like An Idiot
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 12:52 PM by stopbush
Here's Chirac speaking in French, and * can't even be bothered to wear earphones to understand what he's saying! At least I don't see an earphone, not even a mini version.

* speaking now. I'm sure the freepers see this as * caving in to the quiche eaters!

Vive la France!

BUSH IS BRILLIANT!!...allow me to summarize this for you all. After visiting Normandy, which reminds th world,a nd the French of the scarifice that the US amde to free Europe and defeat the Nazis, France is now going to veto the UN Security council resoultion? I think not?..and The French who would veto, these are the "allies" Kerry has been saying we need, that he will embrace?..

Bush obviously knew all along that he was going to have this perfect opportunity to show respect between America and France/Germany on June 6. The Dems walked right into another punch.

Expect them to start saying that he is politicizing D-Day and riding on FDR's coattails...

2. The French
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 01:21 PM by charlyvi
are not going to pass a Security Council resolution just because * has gone to D-Day celebrations (where he looks more than a little awkward, I might add). They have come out of this Iraq disaster looking wise and mature; we, on the other hand, look like stupid, arrogant, Bible reading cowboys. The French will ride this horse till it drops and rightly so--power and influence within the EU is much more important to their self interest than ties with Washington. It is just so tragic that * has managed to make us look more arrogant than the French. Who could have thought? Mon Dieu!

3. Beyond the stereotype of American hillbilly conceit, I've never found
the French to be *arrogant.* Proud? Yes. Bemused? Yes. Blasé? Yes.

But I'd add to that intelligent, warm, liberal and interesting.

We Americans, on the other hand, are the epitome of uninformed arrogance. I guess it comes with the imperialistic territory.

5. I Disagree...
I did not say the French were unintelligent, cold, conservative or uninteresting. They have a very old culture and are rightly proud of it; however, this more often than not makes them arrogant. And what exactly is "American hillbilly conceit"? I've never found Southerners to be "hillbillies". Conservative? Mostly. Uneducated? Sometimes. But I'd add to that warm-hearted, giving, very creative and always fascinating. We Americans are not the epitome of uninformed arrogance--this forum would not exist if we were.

6. I disagree with you and stick by my post.
BTW - hillbillies has nothing to do with the South. I was born and raised in Ohio, and we had plenty of hillbillies in my town. Those hillbillies with wealth were referred to as *Mountain Williams."

I still don't find the French arrogant. That's an awfully strong term...and a term that I'd apply to the uninformed sectors of American society long before I'd label the French as such.

9. I Disagree and Stick with my post.
By the way, thank you for the lecture on "hillbilly". I suppose it is pointless to argue about French arrogance with a person who would use the terms "Mountain Williams", "uninformed sectors of American society" and "American hillbilly conceit". I think I understand how you would probably defend arrogance in anyone. Bon Soir.
