Reagan is Dead: Ready for a week of blubbing neocons?
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 03:55 PM by Cascadian
We'll here we go...

I suppose we will all have to spend an entire week of Republicans and the right wing media just falling over themselves at the fact Reagan died. I suppose I will head over to Hollywood Video and just rent tons of movies.

1. I personally am a bit sad
And I'm especially sad for one of my friends who admired him so much like so many others. Personally I'm keeping my TV off news channels for a month.

12. I'm sad too.
For all those Nicaraguan children that had to see their Mom's raped by the Contras, and worse.

2. I think we can handle it
I was no fan of his presidency, obviously, but his suffering is finally over.

5. Good idea. No TV for me except the NBA Finals.
Oh, and pity me. I live a few miles from the Reagan Library, where he is to be interred.

The world will descend on Simi Valley and the rest of Ventura County very shortly.

18. The Reagan Library in Simi Valley CA (last I heard)
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 04:19 PM by catzies
It's also conveniently located near a Naval Air Station, where Air Force One will land and anyone else requiring that level of security.

Oh goody, I bet I get to see Air Force One from my office window. x(

9. The Neocons don't have a great deal in common with Reagan.
Reagan wouldn't like them very much, I don't think. Nancy sure doesn't, and neither does Ron Jr. He DEFINITELY wouldn't like Shrub, and I really don't believe he cared much for Poppy. Reagan was a decent sort, personally.

10. It was a terrible way to die. BUT, we shouldn't just sit there...
and let the neocons gush about Reagan's record as President. The Reagan administration was a fucking disaster for this country (and, no, goddammit, he did NOT single handedly win the Cold War). Reagan's 8 years as President was belligerence in foreign policy, utter indifference to needs of the poor and working class, an agressive anti-environmental policy, complete silence on AIDS (until heterosexuals were at risk). Hell, this sounds depressingly goddamned familiar, doesn't it?

I'm sorry for the Reagan family. But dammit, I'm not going to forgive or forget Reagan's imprint on America.

My grandfather died of Alzheimer's disease a few years ago. I was devasted over the way he deteriorated. It is sad how Reagan died but still let us not allow people from forgetting. Forgetting the way he set the standard of setting back this country and creating the gap between the rich and poor. We must not let people be misled into thinking Reagan was a great president.

19. People die...it's sad.
No disrespect intended but...just his morning a fellow democrat and I were saying that if they could pull it off, the Bush people would arrange to have him die right at election time in order to rally the their base and get the sympathy vote! I'm glad that didn't happen...and that his suffering is over.

22. It could be worse
IT could be OCtober...
I don't really think this will help Bush at all. A lot of people who are voting probably barely remember Reagan. He hasn't been PResident for 18 years and he was never a factor in subsequent elections. I am sorry he suffered for so long..or rather, that his family had to watch him decline from a horrible disease. Still, his legacy wasn't enough to get Bush I reelected and I doubt seriously it will help Shrub. I would be more worried about them finding Bin Laden or about another attack. But Reagan was so far gone I can't believe Bush would even campaign on "a vote for me is a vote for Reagan". There will be a lot of crap on TV; the funeral will be televised. A lot of talking heads will be talking a lot of crap but the world has changed so much since Reagan was out of office I can't believe he is still relevant at all.
