21. Better than whom?
Granted, Alzheimers is a tragic disease and the family sufferers more than the patient. Given that, let's not get so maudlin as to canonize the guy...he was a lousy president who "couldn't remember" Iran-Contra and he had a lousy VP (Bush I) who was "out of the loop" when, in fact, he WAS the loop.

24. Be better!
Be better than those we loathe.

Having sypathy for a person's horrible suffering isn't "canonizing" them...its having basic human decency.

18. right on...
death doesn't mean I should respect a bad person... respect is earned in life by being a good person.

22. Respect is something any human should have for a greiving family...
Do you want to lower yourself to the level of people who celebrated the death of Paul Wellstone?

25. No, you're wrong.
Human decency isn't something you have to earn. You get it by being human.

I think that is what separates us from the current leaders of this country. Don't be like them.

4. my grandpa died of the same disease, but he wasn't an asshole
i don't see why we have to love his awful ass just because of how he died, it's a disconnect. it's like people are trying to make this all an alzheimers issue instead of a reagan was an asshole issue.

5. It's not because of the way he died. It's a matter of respect...
for the dead, for a President, for humans.

9. My grandpa died the same way too.
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 04:23 PM by Cascadian
I am sorry but I cannot show any respect to a man who ushered in the unbridled out of control, trickle down economics that has created more poor people. A man who fired air-traffic controllers. A man who helped Saddam Hussein get WMD's and use it on innocent people. No I have no respect and Reagan is not a hero! My grandfather was a hero to me!

10. Glad he died well before the GOP convention
And got it over with so they can't milk it as much.
Good riddance to the father of the neo-radical rich movement.

And I say that with all due restraint and respect.

Besides, he'd already bucked the odds by surviving old Bush's
coup attempt.

11. I am using restraint
and I refuse to respect that which I loathe.

Why respect that which has destroyed the dreams of millions? I can understand why children who are abused think kindly of their abuser, but I am an adult with self-understanding. I don't have to play that game.

And I shall show the same courtesy now that Reagan is gone.
