Reagan's death could give Bush and the Repukes a bump in the polls |
|
but it will only be temporary. Like capturing Saddam.
There's going to be all kinds of "Remembering Reagan" specials on the news networks and everybody's going to get all nostalgic and sentimental and it could very well earn the Repukes in general a couple of points, but it won't last long.
So, like, don't freak out too much. :) Just be glad this didn't happen right before the election.

12. This will be a morale boost for the Repukes, though |
|
because of the whole pride thing and the TV stroking their egos for a month or so. They'll get some of their will back, and the polls very well could reflect that.
Again, though, it won't last long.

Or Benjamin Franklin? He's on the $100 bill, you know, so he must have been really good.

was a lousy president. He had charisma and very little else. He couldn't tell the difference between what was real and what was in the movies. He absolutely destroyed the economy with his voodoo economics and used the "I can't remember" defense regarding the Iran-Contra debacle.

6. Not too sure about that. Bush is such a sad sack compared to Reagan |

True conservatives could become discouraged when comparing the two

7. I absolutely agree with you. |

I hate to be callous, but if it had happened in September or October, that would've been it for the Democrats.
As it stands, Bush cannot come out well in this either way--even though Reagan fumbled and bumbled a lot, and even though he didn't exactly take care of the "little man" in America, he was a very popular president.
My hope is that many Republicans who don't really like Bush's policies will begin to compare the two--Regan's legend (which is mostly hype) to Bush's Urban Cowboy, which is definitely hype, but comes attached with buddying up to a double agent, war profiteerers in his administration, and lies galore about waging war.
Another thing which I hope becomes a point of contention with Bush--Nancy has been making some very anti-Bush policy public statements lately. Perhaps with Ronnie dead, she'll feel freer to make more if she's inclined.

Ron Jr. has no love for Bush at all. The Repugs will have to tread lightly here or they may end up having Ron Jr. out there stumping for Kerry.

11. It also happened at the beginning of Bush's D-Day trip |

so it drowns out that out of the news completely.

19. That's what I thought also |
|
that any bump will be short. There is a two generation difference here, one who adored the stooge and is going or gone as well, and a new class that doesn't have the feelings for st. ronnie that others had. Also, there's people my age who came to their senses seeing him for what he was, a tarnished hero of the lunatic fringe. Let's bury him and get on with our lives.
