5. I'm not so sure of that. You don't just wake up one day with

Alzheimer's disease, it sneaks up on you slowly. I first thought something was wrong during one of his debates with Mondale in 1984. Reagan mis timed his closing statement and was cut off before he could finish. For an actor who always hit his mark, that was a very uncharacteristic moment. When he was questioned during the Iran-Contra hearings and repeatedly said that he didn't remember, I believed him. It certainly appeared that his inner circle was covering something up during the latter part of his second term. Relatively minor incidents, like not recognizing members of his own cabinet, only add to my impression that his health was already in decline while he was still president.
