Ronnie dies...Chimps in Europe...Good or Bad for the 2004 Election?
I can see a case for both...Chimp's Temper and stuff doesn't get covered in his great European Conquest of trying to ally himself with the "old Europe."

St. Ronnie's death...kind of takes the spotlight off his failings and allows the RW Repugs, Mainstream Repugs and Repugs and General to do a WEEK of "memorials." Where the Repug Agenda will be talked about like Moses or Biblical Comings and the cries for "Mt. Rushmore" to have "St. Ronnie's" image will be on CNN, MSNBC, CNN HEADLINE, and the Networks.

I am sorry for anyone who dies of Alzheimers..and don't "gloat" over St. Ronnies Death like some here. I just feel sad that his "POLICIES" will never get reported...since he's a SAINT!

1. It Will Be Over In A Few Weeks
And Dimbo will be crucified if he starts to compare himself with or tie his administration to Reagan's.

2. Better now than November, however...

the RW and GOP probably murdered Reagan because the Big Dog's book is coming out this month and they need something to take away the publicity. Reagan getting whacked is about the only thing that will take the spotlight off the Big Dog.

3. You know.. I hate to say it but you have a point...Chimp Implodes in
Europe..so let's give St. Ronnie a little "Dr. Kvorkian" in his vein.

Given the reports on DU that St. Ronnie had weeks and months to live and that he suddenly dies while the Chimp is on his "tour de force" does make one wonder what the hell is going on...:-(

5. By the time Clinton's book comes out
the Reagan focus will have subsided.

7. Whacking Reagan

will have served to draw a stark contrast between what the RW considers all that Reagan represents about what is good about the US and Clinton, the president that defiled the WH.

6. No effect at all
the election's 5 months away. Reagan's passing will be a distant memory.

9. No Effect To ... Not Good
Perhaps it's unseemly talk about '04 politics at this moment, but I don't see why people think this is good news for Bush.

First, while there's going to be a lot of retrospective in the days to follow, the fact that (a) people knew it was inevitable, (b) the passing happened on a Saturday, and (c) the passing happened with Bush in Europe all help Rove from milking this beyond the hardcore Reganites and Bushistas.

But then, for people who do think, consider all the retrospectives of a guy who may not have had an intellect but at least looked and sounded the part of being a President (and was, after all, able to uncork moments of wit every once in awhile) and how he'll be compared to what we have now.

You're going to tell me THAT'S going to look positive?

(And look ahead a little ... just after Reagan's funeral, whad'dya got? Clinton's book, and ANOTHER opportunity to look at where we were vs. where we are -- and again, that's not a flattering comparison. Right?)

So chill, people. Let the world mourn. And don't fret about the attempts to milk this for political hay, which will happen.

Just like everything else they've done, it'll blow back in their faces.

11. True...for all his faults he was more "Presidential" and had more "class"
than this idiot farce of a President. Maybe it WILL work in our favor.

10. Somewhere between a wash and bad for them
It'll be down the memory hole soon. To everyone, Bush compares badly up against the Quipper: to his fans, Junior's an embarrassment in comparison, to his detractors, Junior's even more inconsequential.

Having it happen now gets it out of the way. In Europe, where they hate Reagan too, it will be just more crap for Junior. It will also steal the thunder from Junior, and he HATES not being the star.
