Bush said "he's going to the shiny city" ? ? ? ?
My ears must be plugged. I swear I heard shrublite on the radio from France eulogizing Reagan by saying "he was going to the shiny city". I can't make this shit up.

I was "parsing" his statement, and he has the intonation of a drunk trying to sound sober, combined with slurring of easy words, but concentrating hard on words like
" Abi - Li - Ty" and "Di Li Gence" while f8cking up the others.

Anyone else's stomach strong enough to hear it? I may have been mistaken, but really now. Ronnie's going to the Shiny city?

1. "Shining" I think...
His remarks were quite religious (and naturally he had to READ every word).

9. This may be a good time to remind people
that Reagan took the line from Kerry's direct ancestor (through his mother) John Winthrop, the founder of Boston. Just a thought ;) .

12. John Winthrop, founder of Boston, Kerry's direct ancestor SAID IT FIRST!!!
That is great!

"...The history of presidential elections is that the candidate with the sunny, uplifting "vision thing," as George H.W. Bush put it, usually wins. Richard Nixon, whose narrow triumph over the joyful Hubert Humphrey in 1968 is the exception that proves the rule, clunkily called it "the lift of a driving dream." Ronald Reagan in 1980 beautifully conjured America as a "shining city on a hill." This was a line from John Winthrop, the founder of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and Kerry's ancestor. But for both the Democratic candidate and President Bush, the question remains: Whose city? Whose hill? Beyond the day-to-day negative skirmishing, the real battle is for the high ground."

11. Seven gates into the city....
The shining city on the hill idea pretty much sums up Shrub's ideas of religion.

The few who are saved get to live in the city on the hill. The rest of us burn down there in the pits of hell. Nice imagery, huh? Nice guy.

13. You should have seen the visual
Talk about a s...l...o...w.. and painful delivery. You heard it -- now imagine it, replete with those vacant stares directly into the camera. It was surreal.

You're correct when you describe his difficulty with the language. Visually, his mouth was exaggerated on these words, as if someone practicing another language, or working in speech therapy. Hmmmm....
