Reagan's passed on, no gloaitng, no insults from me
I totaly disagreed with Reagn's policies especially his weak "Just say no to drugs" while crack cocaine did a number on urban America...so I'm not going to line up and say I miss the man at all.

BUT, as he did die from a terrible disease, I will respect his family by not saying or doing anything disrespectful. I'm still gettng over the death of my co-worker's son in Iraq.

It is a passing of time for me..my family was stationed at Andrews AFB during the Reagan years, and while I didn't se him in person, it was neat living down the street from Air Force One :-) Those meories helped me start to develop a true sense of the world, and I'll always treasure that.

So in closing, so long Gipper, Godpseed. My prayers go out to your family in this time of sadness :-)

2. It wasn't very "neat" for poor school children to have the asshole Reagan
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 08:26 PM by Zinfandel
for president for eight years (nor as Governor, for that matter)...

Reagan was an environmentally ignorant destructive motherfucker (just like the cocksucker in office now). As if the environment is there only for corporations to exploit, fuck the land, future generations and anyone who questions them.

Reagan began the right-wings wet dreams, of union busting and lower wages and less benefits & (less OSHA) safety for workers.

Reagan did nothing, absolute nothing...did you get that? Nothing, for the poor or the middle class families of this country.

And the sad part is so many motherfuckers, (on this forum too) voted for the pig and will vote for a filthy lying republican again...

They watch TV and think, gee, Reagan was okay. What other research do they do? None. They get it ALL from TV!!!!

I will have to look that up.

So many terrible things were done under his presidency, it is hard to remember.

17. Your absolutely correct and television is just going to pretend, glorify
and look the other way on his cold-hearted conservative agenda!

6. Chill out
Reagan is dead.

Yes, his policies hurt a lot of people, but he is gone now.

Personally, I think people watching TV now will contrast Reagan and Bush and see that Bush lacks Reagan's ability to communicate and his humor and his ability to admit he made mistakes.

Right now the Repubs are trying to gain points because of abortion, and lo, as NBC just pointed our, their hero signed a liberal abortion law while governor.

8. Wow, you changed my mind...get fucking real...signing an Abortion bill
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 08:28 PM by Zinfandel
in California...is that suppose to be big time going out on the limb? What a break through, abortion right's are as routine in CA as turning on the TV...as I mentioned you get ALL your info from TELEVISION.

The people of California, the CA Assembly, the CA Senate, put the pressure on Reagan to sign it...Reagan was staunchly opposed to it.

Just as he befriended people like Falwell and every other right-wing anti-choice nut while president.

Get your fact anywhere but television.

11. I'm not talking about Reagan's motivation
I'm talking about persuading those 7% of people who pay very little attention to the news at all and yet will be the swing voters who will decide if Bush will stay in the White House.

I just think it's good for our team that we can say that Reagan did sign an abortion bill. And I think it's good for our team that Nancy Reagan is for stem cell research.

It's good for our team that those issues are somewhat less polarizing because of the Reagans.

By the way, I know how harmful Reagan's policies were. But I am focused on getting Bush out of the White House.

10. Why all the sympathy for Reagan?
Seriously- I don't get it.

The Reagan administration HURT people. They killed people. Lots of people.

I'm not going to piss on Ronald Reagan's grave, but I'm sure as hell not going to wish him "godspeed" either. I'll save my sympathy for the countless Alzheimers victims who DON'T have Reagan's resources, who are suffering TODAY because of policies Reagan helped to institute.

13. I understand.
My own mother is losing her memory, and we don't have much money.

But as I said in an earlier post, Reagan is the past. I can't change that.

I can only help to make a better future by getting Bush out of the White House.

12. Agreed.
We are all aware of the real Reagan legacy. Nothing has changed. Yet I know there are many Americans who believe he was a great President. That won't change either. Reagan has been a non-factor in this country for more than 10 years.

I'll elect to say nothing because I really can't say much positive.

15. However, there are many here who are not aware of Reagan's deed's...
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 08:47 PM by Zinfandel
and many need to be reminded (and want to be reminded, just see the person who responded after my first post on this thread).or informed and want to truly know the truth and the facts about Reagan and his right-wing extremely actions, policies and ideology...

That they will NOT get this from television.

14. I agree completely....
If I am content about his passing, it's only because I don't wish him any more pain.

While I don't agree with the decisions he made while living, I would never celebrate the fact that his children are no longer with a father, his wife is no longer with the absolute love of her life, and many people now mourn the death of a friend.

I've lost my father to cancer, I know what that kind of pain feels like. If anything happened to my husband, I would die inside. And my friends? It's safe to say the tears would fall for a long, long time.

President Reagan and I didn't agree on much, but to insult a person after his passing is cheap and certainly not liberal. He can't defend himself, so what's the point?

We can all imagine what the reaction from the other side would be if Bill and/or Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, or John Kerry died tomorrow. Does anyone here REALLY want to compare to that?

16. I'm kinda cold about the whole thing,
mainly because the times he was president were kinda cold and mediocre, just like know. Frankly I wish the world would just put the thing to sleep especially since he's been pretty much brain-dead the past few years.
