1. LOL........
It sure looks like it has brought all the FReekers out of the FR closet. I'm ashamed at the way some of these posters are carrying on over a REPUBLICAN. It doesn't look much like a dem site to me anymore.I never dreamed there would be so much infighting over a repuke in here. It's too disgusting to watch. :puke:

3. Yeah, I'm a freeper because I won't dance over the death of someone
out of respect for their family. No, I think that makes me compassionate.

4. I gave my respects and sympathy in another thread......
But there are too many threads about Reagan and too many defending him. This is supposed to be a DEMOCRATIC forum......or so I thought.

5. I'm not defending what he did in life, I am defending his family's right
to grieve. I agree. I'd like to see the whole thing locked up tight. It really has nothing to do with politics at this point...unless we make it that way. :hi:

2. Sad, but true
That's sort of the point I was making in the thread I had locked earlier. There are so many more important things going on in the world and we need to talk about THOSE things and keep them out there, front and center, whether the media wants to do it or not.

Amazing how many posts I've read today that complain that all we're going to be hearing about for weeks is Saint Ronnie, yet every other thread on DU tonight is a Reagan thread.

7. Okay shoot me now...I popped a bottle of the bubbly
cheap stuff though. I would have an expensive bottle for Poppy, Frank Carlucci, James Baker, but Uncle Ronnie Raygun has had it rough over the past decade and he's been harmless. I'm sure his family is grieving and should be allowed to do so, but I truly don't share their pain.

If this makes me awful then so be it.

10. I really don't think that was the point
The point, at least as far as I see it, is that there are more important things going on other than Saint Ronnie's death. I hated him when he was alive, I'm fairly indifferent to his death. I don't feel joy, I don't feel sorrow. As I said before, let's say RIP and move on, let the Freepers wail and scream about it it while we talk about important things, like winning in November.

11. no need for that
I was referring more so to the volume of threads, not the content.

12. Sorry haven't been here this afternoon. Took the kids to see Harry
Potter and I haven't seen ALL of the threads. There were some earlier calling for everyone to show restraint, etc., and threads in response to that...I'm not sure how many threads are running on this subject. I just know that I'm not feeling bad about this nor am I gloating either.

8. WHAT BOTHERS ME IS THAT TRAFFIC IS SO HIGH I CANNOT HIDE
ALL THE REAGAN THREADS. I have my own opinion of Reagan, and it is not good, but I don't want to read more stuff about him precisely because of it. He is DEAD and has been DEAD for a while.
The people who should worry us are the myth creators. And they must have been ready for the last 10 years...we will get a deluge of stuff and THEN we should protest and scream and yell and try to do something about it. But now is just emptying bile, and probably justified bad feelings, on DU.
Again I would like to be able to hide the threads because I don't need reinforcement of my opinion and I think we have spoken enough about it. He is not worth all the attention. We have more pressing things to worry about with the inheritance he left behind.

9. i have a different view
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 08:23 PM by rchsod
of ronnie because my dad knew him and his family. they grew up in the same social and economic class. my dad told me some stories about ronnie and i remember several years ago a poster also said her aunt grew up with ronnie...as for his political views and actions in california that was another story. his presidential run started with bush being forced on him and then being shot..my dad realized not long after that ronny was not in charge of the government. they gave him a speech and he read it..but the real president was bush and his thugs. they had everything set up -the president that was growing senile every day and a public that adored him..for those who blame him for all the shit that happened in the 80`s wake-up, it the same thugs that we are fighting today..why do you think they hated clinton? it disrupted their overthrow of our republic..

13. Good points. I loathe the Reagan Legacy

but I am neither sorry nor glad that the shell of Reagan that remained is at long last dead.
