I will not however lower myself to the level of gloating and contributing to that which I stand firmly against.

Could it be a possibility that those kids flanking Phelps are interlopers who jumped into the picture at the last second? Because it looks like they're talking about Phelps himself.

15. I am suggesting that when people cheer when a fascist asshole dies
a bell rings and another fascist asshole is born..because all it takes is enough dehumanization of people combined with a healthy dose of hatred to keep creating the same motherfucking thing over and over again.....do you think there were NOT MURDEROUS LEFTISTS TYRANTS? History would prove you incorrect.

Hatred is not a value of mine no matter who is doing the hating.

Regardless if someone cheers or not. Suit yourself and don't cheer Reagan's death but to try and say people who do are somehow like Phelps is a crock. Phelps is a bigot and one of the worst bigots around. The people who are happy that Reagan is dead are not bigots.

what is it that makes a bigot but hatred?
Oh and another question...since we are comparing hating your adversaries versus taking another tack in the matter...who made a bigger difference in the long run...Fred Phelps...or Martin Luther King?

36. Well according to you, there is no difference between Fred Phelps
and Martin Luther King. Neither is more worthy of my respect than the other. Niethers death is more worthy of my sorrow than the other.

What makes a bigot but hatred?

Let's see.... I hate someone because they want to kill me or steal from me or I hate someone because their skin is brown. Nope no difference...yea I see your point. They are the same. If I hate someone who steals from me and wants to kill me I am a biggot.

Brilliant.

20. Think: Hutus and Tsutsis (sp)
and such public inflamation over the airwaves prior to the massacre... that recently the world court held that those pushing the rhetoric on the airwaves could be brought to trial for something along the lines of incitement to crimes against humanity. Sometimes we border on the rhetoric from the worst of the right (for example there are few national rwingnuts who get to overt incitement... save Savage).

We can cricitize the policies - we can slam those who bought it - but we can also respect a short period of holding the tongue or watching how one criticizes... but for me, I really chose not to lose my dignity - which is what keeps the caring for humanity within me which keeps me fighting - otherwise... fuckit I have enough education to make a good living and not give a damn about anyone else (and there goes one more thoughtless, mindless, self-centered nonparticipant that is dragging down our demoracty.)

I had to do a double take on that photo. The one on the left has "He's" on his shirt and the one on the right has "Gay"

"He's Gay"

Very funny.

Although it would have been better to have a shirt on that said:

"I'm with the gay guy" ---->

Prior to stopping by here, I posted a Reagan entry on my blog. I said, basically, that you could mourn the death of a captivating man while criticizing his economic policies and his status as a puppet. Was that, in anyone's opinion, the right move?

22. Do not mistake
me for mourning Reagan. I simply refuse to bash on him hours after he has died out of respect for his family. IMO what you said is true, his policies are certainly fair game. For me however I have to wait for a bit. His family loved him and I have been in their shoes far too often in the last 10 years to bring myself to wail away at this time. However, I do not mourn his passing.

51. I will say it;
I dance for joy at the thought of a dead Reagan. He was a small man with no intellectual substance who screwed America to it's core and set the stage for the BFEE. "Ronald Reagan, dictatorship facilitator and codependent". Good riddance and may his VP bite the dust of our green planet in the very near future. Long live democracy, sic semper tyrannis and don't let the gates of hell hit you in the ass as you enter, Ronny.

25. They are why I oppose gun control
The right is made up of very violent people who blow up government buildings because they think government is too big, murder abortion doctors because they are pro-life, beat up anti-war demonstrators because they want to make the world a better place, attack art exhibitors who display unpopular art, beat up gays because they are "Christians" and kill Muslims/Arabs to prove their "patriotism".

They are violent people who must be confronted forcefully, not through sissy candlelight vigils and chants of "Kum-by-yah".

53. Crudity and comedy
are closely linked. What Reagan did to America is no laughing matter. I can understand that people have much bile to vent about a man who cared not for the living or the weak. Reagan was a wedge to help destroy the America our forefathers gave us and to make fascism acceptable to the average American. Crudity begins with dehumanization; a process Reagan had a hand in promoting. And I won't mention the crudity of torture, rape, murder and all the other fine gifts Reagan brought to Central America and which his micro-clone * has "given" to the Middle East. I accept human crassness and crudity on this forum because here, at least, we can acknowledge how we really feel about those who pose as leaders but are actually deceivers.

34. Maybe I'm being
naive, but I'd guess 99% of republicans would tell you they would be ashamed to be associated with a yahoo like the guy in the picture. On the other hand, I'd also guess that 99% of Democrats would tell you they'd be ashamed to be associated with the venom spewing rash of hatred we're seeing in DU today.

I'm thinking back back to Bill Clinton's speech he gave kicking off his book tour a couple days ago. He said something about how just because you disagree with a person's politics doesn't make them evil. I suppose if Bill Clinton himself came on the DU today and posted that sentiment people would be lining up to tell him he was asshole secretly doing the work of the BFEE.

I should have known better than to even come into the forum today.

I've learned that wishing death on people who are guilty of nothing other than being born a certain way is the moral equivalent of not showing the proper polite reverance at the natural passing of a man responsible for poverty, misery and death on a grand scale.

59. not to mention that matthew sheppard wasn't a public figure
and he was murdered by people just like those "protesting." i would hope that people do not protest the reagan funeral though. that would be an apt comparison, and it would be as distasteful as what these folks did. i have no problems with people expressing their feelings here, but i do think it's disrespectful to the family (and hateful) to "protest" someone's funeral.

58. disingenuous
totally inappropriate and false comparison.

1) The evil Rev hates Fags (based on his beliefs)which most of know to be shit. But the thing is, homophobia as with racism is based on ignorance and hate. It's biological in nature ones color of skin, sexual orientation...

2) But with Ronny boy he had a choice in his behavior. he wasn't born hated for who he was, he engendered hatred through his actions.
Big difference, imo.
If you were to ask me if i hate the man, my answer would be no.
Did i wish him dead? no.
Do i mourn his passing? no.
can i muster up even a smidgen of respect and compassion? no.

It's karma, baby.

Now, i do not know what i'd have to do to qualify as a Rev in this case.

I have not done a jig or laughed or raised a toast.
However, i have joined my fellow Americans in remembering Ronny.
Is it my fault that the man's legacy is one long list of ugly truths?
