was reaguns another reTHUGlican chickenhawk? never served?

it seems to be an important question, since reaguns actually started the 'pre-emptive war on innocent third-world countries that pose NO danger to USA' concept...reaguns pre-emptively attacked GRENADA, which didn't even have any military, just police officers without guns....reaguns lobed a missile right through their hospital...

reaguns surrounded the little island of Granada with an entire Navy fleet of giant ships and aircraft carriers...reaguns claimed that such a PROUD VICTORY was what America needed, after the embarassment of Vietnam...that GRANADA would once again make America PROUD of our military....:puke:

1. This is from Lou Cannon's obit
in the Washington Post:

"By the time "Kings Row" was released in 1942, Reagan was in the Army. He had joined the cavalry reserve in 1937 because he liked to ride horses and was called to duty in April 1942. But Reagan's nearsightedness disqualified him from combat duty. He was assigned to the First Motion Picture Unit of the Army Air Corps, which had taken over the Hal Roach studios in Culver City a few miles from Reagan's home. Reagan spent the war at Fort Roach, as its inhabitants called it, making training films and appearing in a 1943 Irving Berlin musical, "This Is the Army." He was discharged on Dec. 9, 1945, with the rank of captain."

4. He was famous for his VD films.
He was a bit old for WWII, but my father (who was old but served in the ATC) never quit laughing at the Culver City Commando who made government films about the dangers of Venereal Disease.

6. "A bit old"?
Hardly...he was 31 in 1942. Clark Gable (who was a decade older) volunteered, was commissioned an officer in the Army Air Force, and flew combat missions.

His eyesight must've been pretty damned bad, although you'd think that corrected with eyeglasses it would've been acceptable.

2. Reagan was drafted I think?
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 11:00 PM by Yupster
Maybe he volunteered, but I don't know.

Anyway, he was used to make films for soldiers. Training films, for soldiers. Films for airmen.Edited newsreels before their release. That kind of thing.

He wasn't in a fighting unit. He was deemed unfit because of his horribly poor eyesight.

On edit this was in WWII of course.

5. how can reaguns edit films if he had "horribly poor eyesight"
:puke:

it's tough to believe that story...

are you sure reaguns wasn't trying to act in the films?

time to bring back reaguns "Bedtime for Bonzo" in honor of reagun's death...
