Dem Convention.. What would you do if Nancy Reagan was a speaker?
As we all know, there's no love lost between Mrs. Reagan and the BFEE. With Nancy's new found passion for stem cell research, I truly wonder if she could be 'persuaded' to speak out against a candidate who doesn't support it. Love will do some strange things to a person - and, regardless of your opinion of them as a couple - its obvious there was alot of Love there, big time.

So, just what would happen if, somehow, Nancy decided to speak at the DNC convention? To say that Ronnie might not have agreed politically with the people there but that there are bigger issues, such as helping the greater common good? Its not like the Republican machine is gonna come out and slander her afterwards.. it creates the ultimate quagmire for those on the right.

Personally, I see about .000001% chance of this ever happening - but, if it did, somehow, it would be such delicious irony.. thoughts?

1. That would be amazing.
I'd also be in fear of Nancy's life if she did.

2. That would be something.
But I also think it would highlight the single-issue stance that a lot of voters have. Is that a good thing?

8. I concur!

I think that there have been far too many times in the course of American politics that have overly emphasized the importance of most of the single-issue movements in this country. So many times these issues have obfuscated some of the more far reaching debates which the American people should be engaged. That is not to say, at all, that I would depreciate the issue of "stem cell" research as being important, but, there seem to be so many issues that we need to prioritize.

I really don't believe the Nancy would ever call to the DNC to allow her to promote "stem-cell" research in a political forum.

I guess, I really feel that most of the time that "single issue" agendas, for the most part, tend to be rather narrow in their perspective of the "greater good"; at least in a utilitarian frame of thought. But, at the same time, there are so many isolated pockets of need, that we must be sure that there is not a tyranny of utilitarian thought which jeopardizes the needs of the few.

18. Her putting stem-cell research on the table with the RNC isn't going to
go over well, either. Colin Powell tried to do the same with Affirmative Action in 2000, and look what and where it got him, the doofus!

3. Never going to happen
And the right wing machine would go after her. I can already see the stories about her "Hollywood astrologer" telling her to go after Bush.

If she spoke and limited her speech to mainly talking about the points we agree on, then I would be okay with it. Still, I don't think the Dem party needs to eulogize Regan.

7. I would (applaud her): courage must be commended no matter
the political stripe or previous failings, IMO. She's gone through 10 full years of hell (granted aided by help the average "Joe" would never have, but hell nonetheless). I think that earns her a little consideration if she were to step forward to try to counter some of the RW lie factory. It will never happen, but I'd certainly commend her if she did.

Nancy is certainly more deserving of respect than Babs, for heavens sakes... But, you can sense the underlying tension and barely disguised animosity towards her-- even among RWers. That sort of amuses me, really.

I thought it was fantastic when the Bradys spoke at the Dem Convention in support of stricter gun laws.

They make up lies faster than any other regime in recent history.

21. I wouldn't mind having her speak about stem cell research
and Alzheimer's disease.

Remember, she and Ron started off as FDR Dems.
