No one is discussing today's D-Day ceremony. Did US news not cover it? |
|
CNNI covered the whole thing live, and it was very moving. Brought a tear to the eyes to see Chirac pin medals on the the surviving soldiers, to watch each of the 14 countries' bands march past, to watch the fly-bys of each country...very moving.
Did the US not see the entire even live?
BTW, Bush looked like a fish out of water there...to the max. It was a long moment of embarassment for the US.

4. Not that I saw. He had his moment yesterday. It was just Chirac |

I was going to head to the eastern bloc for vacation this month, but I'll head to Normandy instead. Make it a 20 year anniversary since I did a bicycle there in '84. Excellent food, lots of beauty, not to mention history, and, since today's events, just a feeling that I'd like to be there again.
I was very moved, seeing the veterans march in and receive their medals. I felt a strong sense of unity with our allies. I'm sorry Bush doesn't feel the same way.

I watched a little bit of Chirok (sp) and some of the French military marches, but, lost interest.

5. I don't think anyone was more disinterested than Bush |

Our US leader did not shine today. Fortunately, he wasn't called upon to speak.
But the allied veterans was a sight to behold. I had goosebumps. I guess these things affect people in different ways.

6. I first saw it on CNNI and then c-span played it a little while ago |
|
I teared up when I watched the old veterans marching in. The veteran who very visably raised his shoulders and puffed out his chest prior to Chirac presenting him his medal, and the veteran who saluted the entire time that Chirac was addressing him got the tear spigots opened a little more.
These are the things that I'm trying to remember as opposed to how embarrassed I felt with our dynamic duo.
