looks like European leaders are avoiding bush* at Normandy (PHOTOS)
Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 02:59 PM by amen1234

no surprise there...after bush* went out of his way to INSULT and DEGRADE the Leaders of Europe for several days...it's no wonder that none of them really want pictures taken with bush*...looks like bush* was shunted to the side for most of the major events at Normandy...

Air France flew the veterans to Paris free and the city's finest hotels are putting them up and throwing big parties. World War II-era American Jeeps sat on the sidewalk outside one hotel while a band played swing music and waiters served free champagne to the fighters and their families.

What a pig...giving a little seig heil for the cameras.

To be fair, though, I don't think he was at the British ceremony, or the ceremony in Caen, hence his absence from the photos.

9. I read that the European leaders did not want to give * photo-ops
This was two or three weeks ago and I don't remember where I read it, but it said something to the effect that the European leaders (most of them) were not anxious to provide Bush with photo-ops on D-Day that could end up being used in his election campaign.

Looks like it was true. heh heh heh

Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 03:28 PM by amen1234

this is actually a DOUBLE INSULT...with pickles making fun of the old Italian women who sometimes wear the old Catholic prayer veils, despite that pickles has never belonged to the Catholic Church....and bush* showing NO RESPECT to the aging Pontiff (who is also the head of a country called: The Vatican) and the head of the Catholic Church...

29. No, Laura is showing respect
By covering her head. In many parts of the world Catholic women still cover their heads. Even in the US, like some of my aunties and even a couple of cousins. No disrespect there at all.

Georgie on the other hand, what a putz.

I'm sure he's pi**ed because everybody didn't embrace him as the Imperial Leader who doesn't believe the media from any country is telling the truth.

Just one of those days I'd like to be the fly on the wall, ya know.

The D Day remembrances have been great...and historical. Chirac pointedly made that clear...

Seems most of the EU chooses not to buy into the American "crusade".

I wonder how the UK will manage this tightrope act.

on edit: I welcome the growth of an independent Europe. That was the point of D Day, no?

In response to a reporter's question in France, Junior 'paraphrased' a speech and said, "Well, there is America...and, then there's Texas."

So, where should he go?

24. Just to be fair... I don't think Bush was at Caen, or Bayeux.
There have been numerous, and simultaneous, ceremonies today in Normandy. The Canadians, for example, had their ceremony at Juno Beach just as the Franco-American ceremony kicked off at Utah Beach. The British were still in religious services at Bayeux Cathedral during the Franco-American ceremony, as well.

I think the only ceremony attended by all of the dignitaries was the one at Arromanches, where it would appear Bush was snubbed. He barely grabbed two seconds of screen time during that ceremony.

And, honestly.. I haven't seen ONE PHOTO of Blair! Did he even make the trip??

but he's not a head of state, and the Queen has done the main British speeches, so he's fairly low key.

27. don't read too much into it
The whole thing is dictated by a strict protocol and scheduled events. As well there is the distinction of Head of governments and Heads of State - for most nations the Heads of State are doing the photo-opping, while the PMs are staying in the background.

Each leader met Chirac at his own ceremony. (I guess it would be pretty awkward for France if they tell every country they're most indebted to them.)
