The stress is causing us to attack each other? What else could explain
all this? We lose folks everytime it happens. Because instead of attacking what went wrong and refining our political togetherness and trying to include dissenters, we attack each other.

Sometimes we all sound like "Freepers" when we are anquished. But, why are we more forgiving to the "Freeps" (in that we keep caring what they think about us) than we are to our fellow DU'ers that we know are on the same page, whether some of us are a little "out of the margins" sometimes or nor. Should those of us a little "out of the margins" attack each other so that only a "middle of the page is left?"

What if the "middle of the page" is really Left and not Middle? Can we agree to disagree without personal attack? Or, must we destroy everything.

5. I guess that's the nature
of Democrats. We're too broad minded with each one having a favorite "most important" even though we agree on the rest of our agenda. What we need to remember is that no matter which "most important" ends up being first on the agenda, the rest will be tended to. Right now, the most important thing to me is defeating Bush then the rest can fall in place.

2. Frustration maybe?
I have not been attacking Reagan, and I have defended him a few times. But this constant 24 hrs of Reagan on every channel is beginning to make me crazy.

And so is the knowledge that * could invade 3 other countries in the next week, and we wouldn't hear a damn thing about it in the news.

I mean hello... J.LO got married....

Michael Jackson could go on a rampage with little boys right now. And it would be all Reagan all the time.

I think I will unplug my tv, (after the Soprano's tonight) for the next week, and enjoy some peace & quiet.

3. Hmm...
I rarely see personal attacks on DU. If you do press the Alert button. That's the reason I hang out here as compared to Yahoo with its flames and crass languange... Not that I am against profanity, just how much I can tolerate..

7. Why do you think they call it "yahoo?"
Every once and a while, out of boredom or stupidity, I'll hop over to the message thread attached to a particular news item (the subject doesn't even matter)... within a dozen posts or so, they start in on each other... and the politics and sports boards are even worse.

4. This happens every time a Republican dies
It'll blow over in a few days.

DU is divided over whether to show respect for dead people.

6. My take
Some here are afraid of what others may think. They act on their fears by trying to control what is written here. Whilst they perceive themselves to be acting in the best interests of DU, they are, in fact, only mirroring their fears.

The whole idea of DU, to me, is that it is a place where people can speak freely about current events and learn different viewpoints. It is not a place for control freaks.

It is only when DU is gripped by the fearful control freaks that it loses it's venue for expression.

Do you want to rip our enemy to shreds? I say: Let 'er rip!

8. Reagan, the man vs. historical figure
Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 05:17 PM by louis c
We can mourn the passing of a man, and grieve for his family. After all, Reagan was a father and husband. However, we should also be able to continue to criticize his public positions that so adversely affected so many of us, especially in the Labor movement. When LBJ died, there were many of us who remembered his mistakes in S.E. Asia. The same for Nixon and Watergate. No one on the other side misses an opportunity to trash John Kennedy about his affairs, and his death was far more premature and tragic. Let's face it, when an individual rises to the peak of power and notoriety, it comes with the territory. So, let's keep our criticism civil, and they should stop whining about it.
