Dennis Kucinich statement on Reagan |
|
Ohio Congressman and Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich issued the following statement upon hearing of the death of former President Ronald W. Reagan: "More than any President in modern times, he understood the essential optimism of the American people. He evoked it and exemplified it. His passing at this troubling hour in our national experience therefore is exceedingly sad and leaves a great void." Kucinich issued the statement while campaigning in New Jersey.

I suppose if I held, or were running for public office, I'd hold my tongue and offer such similar pandering.

If DK issued a statement slamming him, his career would be finished.
He does have to work with these people, you know.

7. Where did he deify him? |

Read it again with a little discernment. Even if Reagan was a crappy leader he was always full of optimism, and he did play to the optimism that is inherent in America. Otherwise he wouldn't have been elected once, let alone the landslide he received the second time around. He played the game. It was part and parcel of his belief system, whether you agree with that system or not.
Dennis paid his respects without necessarily praising him. Very diplomatic.

I'm sick of hearing about Reagan like everyone else, but this is something that he probably had to do.

Case in point, current resident of the WH. Kucinich had a plan straight out of the box rather than the others who were developing their platforms for most of the primary season. He had clear views and expressed them, unashamedly. Too many people were too afraid of Bush to back him. They preferred to back the person they thought a sure winner regardless of how closely their views matched Dennis'. Funny how they all turned out to be wrong and the electorate chose the least risky.
He keeps at it to bring this party back from the abyss of the center right character it has taken on. Back to a party that used to really have a core that cared about others less fortunate than themselves. This party has been just as effected by the logic of the "Me Decade" as any other group of people and it shows in the decidedly dismal shift it has taken to the right since Carter was defeated.
DK is and will always be a true winner, regardless of his %.

but I voted for the man I actually liked, rather than the one who had already been chosen for me.
Isn't that what democracy is all about?
You have a problem with that? Just curious.

It's great that Reagan was optimistic while destroying people's lives. Yeah, Kucinich had to play the game. In Amerika if one doesn't play the game to some degree you get shut out of the system. I think that Kucinich knows that Amerika is a Plutocracy and that he is trying to do whatever he can to make a small contribution to thwart the all out take over of Corporate meshed with Govt. It's another voice cryin' in the wilderness. Too bad there aren't a more Dems than a handful that have a spine that speak out for the non-rich of this nation.
