When the Hell is the Pope going to Die? |
|
I'll stop short of wishing for it to happen but, if he could just die now (He's had a good run) and eclipse this 24-hour looping Reagan biography, I think I'd be pleased. At least when a Pope dies, there's an air of reverence and mystery in the coverage.
Fair's fair, after all. Reagan upstaged the WWII vets this weekend. How about some instant karma?

2. Ugh! That's an odious thought! |
|
I don't usually say this, but you should be ashamed of yourself.
I'm not even religious but just given that you're wishing death on someone to change the media coverage.

5. I think he and a whole bunch of Archbishops are wishing for the same. |
|
Then an ultra-conservative will be selected to replace him (he made sure those are the only types available to select from) and the Church will be really, really, really extremely conservative.

25. I totally agree. Even your thread title |
|
is really disgusting and uncalled-for. Whatever you may think of Catholicism (I'm a Christian, but not Catholic), the Pope is not a bad person and has actually done some good over the years. With the exception of abortion and birth control, his stances on social issues are quite liberal (against the Iraqi invasion, against the death penalty, etc.).
And even if they weren't, it is blatantly disrespectful and totally unacceptable to wish death on him for any reason at all, least of all to change the media coverage of another event! Your thread is more worthy of a freeper than a liberal/progressive. We are supposed to be better than that.

And does my response to your response count?
I have to figure out how ashamed I should be.

The opinions stated are extreme and do not represent the majority of DU'ers, and do not necessarily represent the views of DemocraticUnderground or its Mods/Admins.

When he dies, we will hear the question, "Did John Paul II cause the downfall of communism?" And the answer will be "yes."

13. be nice. it would really be cool to watch it become an obsession |
|
for these people. It could be just the thing they need to focus their energy and devotion to so they can feel good when they stay home from the polls and the Dems sweep into power.

... that make up half of your state regularly monitor DU in search of dark humor as an excuse not to vote for John Kerry.
Its true!
Elections really ARE decided by internet message board posts. Frank Luntz told me. Or was it Andrew Sullivan?

19. I did not state a quantity in my post with regards to who is... |
|
...monitoring what. I merely stated that this post is one item that will not help. When this sort of thing counts as humor fitting to a message board composed of people that are supposed to be a little more tuned-in to a sense of decency it is a sad day.

Failing that, perhaps a lecture on how decency can't be purchased, how it is the foundation of civilized society, and how sad you feel for me that I don't have a drop of it.

you bad...Pope can't die until after election, Bush would be so moved by his death after meeting him (NOT) he would become a Catholic just to win the vote.
