Kerry coming to Reagan library tomorrow. |
|
Just heard this on the local news here in LA.
Sen. Kerry will come the the Reagan library to pay his respects.
I'm sure that freepers and Kerry haters here @ DU will have fits.

13. Excellent! John Kerry sets himself apart from the rest of the world's |
|
dignitaries who will flock to DC on Friday to pay homage.
It is classy to visit Reagan's place of honor - the library.
Kerry will draw attention - he said he would suspend politicking for a few days - as he takes the time to go out of his way to honor Reagan.
Better than just blending into the crowd at Friday's state funeral.

18. I think it's an appropriate move... |
|
While I couldn't stand RR's policies, he, at least, WAS an elected Prez. We have traditions in America where we honor our leaders in death. So Kerry's visit is appropriate and honorable.
I wouldn't waste time doing it, but that's another matter.

2. well, it seems that to half this board |
|
Kerry can do no right. This is a classy move by a classy dude.
The man is paying respects to one of the most popular Presidents ever. When Bush dies (either one) I would expect the same degree of respect to be offered by our side, because I KNOW that when Clinton dies, the GOP will look like fools celebrating, and I want the moral high road.
Plus, its the right thing to do.

19. I don't think (either) Bush will get the degree of respect that Reagan has |
|
And I don't think either of those scoundrels deserve it, either. Respect, as they say, is a two way street. You tend to get what you give.
Reagan, say what you will of his politics, gave respect to everyone, even his "enemies" (i.e. Gorbachev), which is why many Democrats, liberals and progressives have tipped their hats to him, at the very least in his passage from this world.
Bush -- particularly "W" -- though lies and skullduggery has literally thumbed his nose at the entire world throughout his presidency, even to the point of recklessly turning away many would -be friends and allies. Unless he travels to the Land of Oz, grows a heart, a brain and finds the courage of truth in the next few months, he'll be remembered every way but fondly, and few will have even modestly non-superficial words of grace to utter at his passing.
I'm not saying that Reagan was a saint -- far from it -- but there was still a sense of honor about him not known to the current Whitehouse resident and his tribe.

3. I'm not a Kerry hater, but I don't like him either. In any case... |
|
this is probably a good political move for him, even if it is rather lame.

8. why is it lame? He's validating all those temp. inane Dems |
|
who voted for Reagan. He needs to be seen as embracing unity in a way where he and Dem leadership aren't caving to GOP. Showing respect for a guy who led and was popular now that he's died is not "lame".
It's presidential.

14. Sure, it is presidential. I even said it was a good move for Kerry. |
|
My opinion is that it's lame, I'm sorry if that disappoints you or something.
Its lame because the reasons for Kerry doing this Raygun loving are probably not genuine to begin with, so why would he do all this? Oh wait.. .thats right, it might impress some of the more "moderate" voters, oh yeaaaaaah.
Or maybe I'm just being cynical?

I'm sorry I'm going to miss Sen. Kerry because he might not ever get this close again, but NO WAY am I going anywhere near there right now! I understand they've been queuing up since the wee hours of the day.

During last year's fires, the MC parking lot was filled with fire equipment and people because there was no other place toput them. Plus, the fire was right there. :P

9. C'mon, does he really have a choice? |
|
A former president has died (even if he was one Kerry opposed politically in life). Kerry's running for president. He has to do this (who knows, he may actually want to).
Can you imagine the media firestorm if he didn't?
