No Friends
Did you ever wonder why the Bush Jr. Administration has no one who grew up or graduated with the Idiot President? Every President had people around them, and held important government appointments that were relationships going back 30 yrs. or more. But the piece of shit in the White House has only his father's Friends around him, even the V.P. I think this is a very revealing character flaw. Do you think everyone he associated with when he was younger got fucked up on drugs and alcohol and are no more fit to serve in sensitive government positions than he is?

1. Interesting point
and a good one, too. I really never thought of it that way, but you are right. He is the spoiled brat son of the owner of the company put in charge for a few years who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground (not that bush senior is the owner of the US, the analogy doesn't completely fit, so sue me, LOL!).

I'll be interested to see what other DUers say about this...

2. Maybe his peer group didn't like him.
Maybe an intrepid journalist should seek out his classmates at Yale and Harvard and find out what they thought of him, if they even knew him, or even if he ever went to class. I would bet he was as absent as he was in the National Guard in Alabama.

4. I don't think that him being a
frat-boy partier automatically makes a character flaw. I think he knows that if people spoke out about his younger days, his far-right voting base would be turned off.

9. No Frat Boy
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 10:24 PM by louis c
I'm not talking about just partying at college. I'm talking about his Friends right up to the mid 80's. Remember, he was getting fucked up until Laura told him to straighten out or she's leaving. By the way, I heard that a new book by the President's sister-in-law (Neil's ex) is coming out in Sept. or Oct. and should sink the S.S. Scumbag once and for all.

32. Awe, that's telling ...
Yeah, I joined a sorority and lived on "Greek alley." Something tells me, Neo Lefty, that you were one of the thoughtful frat boys and don't appreciate a blanket stereotype. That's understandable but unfortunately we all tend to do it too often. My view = It gives me the surface impression, being Greek through college is like going to Yale or The Army Military Academy at west point, in one way. That is, there seems to be no in between characters who graduate at the above hailed institutions or as former frat rats. <g>

Seemingly it comes across to many that the most intelligent & empathetic OR, on the flip-side, the most ignorant and deplorable souls make their mark on society with such backgrounds.

It's not fully valid (or nice) to stereotype, but that won't stop ingrained (hard wired brain) human behavior. LOL This is far from scientific but *every drunkard frat boy* I knew had little to no empathy, one true friend (Daddy! And most important daddy's bank account) and barely graduated from college with gentleman's Cs ... yep just like "boy George." :-)

5. What about that guy who lost his flight privileges at the same time?
James Bath?

Was with BCCI with Georgie?

Was in Arbusto with Georgie?

Bought the Houston Gulf airport on behalf of the Bin Laden family?

Maybe not the best example for Georgie to tout, but hey.

20. Could this be the SAME Jim Bath that is associated w/the 'abortion story'?
http://democrats.com/search.cfm

With Bush Focused on Outlawing Abortions, Will the Media Report on Bush's Own Illegal Abortion?
23-Jan-03
Bush Abortion
In 2000, Bartcop reported, "In the winter of 1971 Bush was dating a woman named Robin Lowman (now Robin Garner). Miss Lowman became pregnant by Smirk and he arranged for her to have an abortion - which in the great state of Texas in 1971 was very illegal! The unnamed source of this story, was a friend of Robin Lowman's and the girlfriend of the man who arranged the abortion. His name is Robert Carl Chandler Miss Lowman's abortion at the Twelve Oaks Hospital in Houston, TX (now the Bayou City Medical Center). The source overheard the call by Mr. Chandler to arrange the abortion and the source visited Robin Lowman at the Twelve Oaks Hospital after the procedure. The source meanwhile, is afraid of coming forward, saying that she was threatened by Chandler and another Bush friend and supporter named Jim Bath. Bath has longstanding intelligence connections, and played a role in the BCCI scandal. Robin Lowman (now Garner) is married to Jerry Lee Garner who is an FBI agent."abortion doctor claiming GWB drove GF to clinic.

This is the same CNN that "disappeared" the Crossfire transcript containing Larry Flynt's allegations of Shrub's knocking up and procuring an abortion for a women in the early 1970s.

6. Never thought about that
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 10:22 PM by RatTerrier
I remember Clinton was always surrounded by his cronies, guys like the Thomasons, Vernon Jordan, etc. Even Nixon had Bebe Rebozo. Hell, Reagan had tons of Hollywood pals like Heston, Griffin, and Sinatra.

But all Bush had was his dad's buddies who bailed him out of financial messes. And Ken Lay only sucked up to him for palm greasing purposes.

13. Truman
Edited on Mon Jun-07-04 10:34 PM by louis c
In one of Truman's press conferences, he was asked how he could justify appointing so many of his friends to high government positions. Truman's reply was "If I can't appoint my Friends, what good is being President". Again, I ask the question, where the fuck are the idiot president's Friends?

Good observation.
Mommie Dearest is too protective of Georgie..Makes one wonder, did she pick his friends. Ha..No wonder he doesn't have any.
The other thing...there definately is a problem between Dear old Dad
and Sonny Boy and Mommy Dearest seems to not have friends either. She appears to be closer to him than the rest and on top of that,
he cuts her down...remember the blue hair thing on camera.

25. I was thinking that same thing........
this weekend. How come we never hear about his Buds? Everybody has Buds. Not georgie boy apparently. People keep saying he's a dry drunk. I think there might be something to that. Everyone I ever knew who quit drinking, quit having fun in their lives. They give up all remnants of their past....incl. friends. I think george doesn't know how to have fun unless it's tied to alcohol or drugs. But then, he discovered Jesus. Or did Jesus discover him? Which way does that story go? He traded booze for Jesus.

But yes, I've wondered about the friends thing too.

I am kind of a loner and tend to like to do things by myself or on my own. I am also kind of shy in social situations so I have a hard time meeting new people or keeping in touch with acquaintances.

That being said I am the polar opposite of Bush ethically and intellectually. :D

37. Exactly !
There's a big difference between certain personality characteristics of us working and middle class folks and the ultra-wealthy. And if Democrats are allowed to be blunt, many of those in the upper middle- class who've been fully brainwashed by Rush and Boortz, turn neo-conservative because these deluded people actually believe that they will rise up into the ultra-wealthy ranks some day. These people come in a number of personalities, races and religions BUT share one morally destructive trait: greed. That trait is intense and every-present greed, especially their intense drive to shameless accumulate ever increasing wealth and/or power.

It's a sad statement of human behavior, in general, that money can buy you certain types of friends. Bush has many fair weather friends, bought and sold from his Father's Administration.

I admire the private and introspective people much more than far too many outgoing upper middle-class people who choose to buy friends by displaying "the little extra" they have. Although many of the upper middle class are demonstrative die-hard right wingers, they're destine to suffer financially as much (if not more) than the rest of us if there's a BushCo. Second Term. I'm going to have to dig down deep to feel sorry for these selfish people when the reality of what BushCo. represents slaps them in the face.

BTW I'm doing my best to help raise my child not to be selfish or jealous of others. She asked me the other day, "Mommy why don't we have a swimming pool in our back yard like the *?" I exclaimed, "But honey we do have a swimming pool. It's call The * Public Pool and it's only four blocks down the street!" :P <snicker>

Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 09:03 AM by mrfrapp
Greg Palast's BBC documentary, Bush Family Fortunes, had an interview with Bush's room mates from Yale; Terry Johnson and Robert Dieter IIRC. The impression I got was that they're still pally with Bush (Palast says that he interviewed them just prior to a White House engagement) and think he's just swell. I don't know if they have any influence but I doubt it.

who is a friend of his. She is one of Laura's vacation friends. She is a good Democrat but still insists that he is a good friend and has been most of her life. She has stayed in the White House at least once since he was selected. I don't ask too much she doesn't say too much. I like this woman but I do not understand this at all. Perhaps it is just Laura she cares about. All I know is that she says he is OK and I shudder and leave it at that.
