Another PR Nightmare brewing for Shrubya...
it's over Drudge, no link (yet, appears to be London Times) but here's the highlights...

Prosecutors are struggling to build a case against Saddam Hussein because they lack both witnesses and evidence to prove the ousted Iraqi dictator is guilty of atrocities, according to a British official quoted by The Times on Monday. Although the US-led coalition has caught 40 of the 55 people on its list of "most-wanted" Iraqis linked to Saddam's former regime, none of them will testify for the prosecution, the unnamed official said.

The newspaper's source also said the Iraqi dictator, ousted by the US and British invasion in March 2003, had hidden any written proof of his direct responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

A 20-member defense team appointed by Saddam's family has complained about not being able to meet its client and accused the US authorities of holding him in breach of the Geneva Conventions.

----------------------

OK .. lets count the ways this can bite BushCo in the ButtCo..

- No evidence, no conviction. The 'sovereign govt' cuts Saddam loose (knowing full well that he won't last 30 seconds in the outside world, but this makes the US looks like fools).

- US Forces 'court' to convict him anyway.. 'sovereign govt' is made to look like the puppets they will be.

- US Takes Saddam away for 'trial' for 9/11... 'sovereign govt' screams foul.

- All of the above pervert the off quoted "Rule of Law" the 'pugs love to quote..

- Geneva Convention violations... 'nuff said

1. I think SH has a safety net.
That is plenty of documents detailing his romance with the Bushco. He didn't stay in power that long because he is dumb.

5. Rove wants to have the Saddam Show Trial all summer long
Their plan is to have the trial all summer, with 24-hr coverage, like the OJ trial. They want weeping witnesses and long stories of Saddam's atrocities, with pictures.

Then they will probably stage a big public execution.

Followed by the capture of Osama bin Laden.

This is how they plan to win in November. This glitch would throw the whole schedule off.

7. If Saddam is responsible for atocities Bush is responsible for Abu Gharib
You just can't get away from it. The difference is that Bush led a nation that invaded another nation and performed atocities on the occupied people. Saddam led a regime that, according to their thinking, was fighting people who wanted to overthrow Iraq's government. So Bush has to be more guilty.

8. Well, the new Iraqi "gov't" just trotted out the death penalty again...
says Saddam should get a firing squad....

Forget the trial, he'll just be rubbed out and they'll say he did of natural causes.....
