Reagan Set the Stage for Bush Fascism
"He talked more than he did. Still, the talk mattered and resonates today. Welfare reform, entitlement reform, tax cuts, a balanced budget, a crime crackdown featuring support - even eagerness - for the death penalty, a rallying against family breakdown." Though most of these initiatives are fundamentally rightwing, "Both parties wanted to do those things after Reagan took a crack at them. Yet for the conservatives who regard his vision as the essential truth, the devil has been in the details - rising homelessness during years of growth, programs Americans do not want touched when push comes to shove, and exploding deficits left for successors to tame. Andy Kohut, head of the Pew Research Center, has little doubt Reagan edged Americans to the right in a way that endured." One that endured long enough to give rise to the fascist Bush regime that, more than any other presidency, has undermined every principle upon which America was founded.

2. And...
Goldwater set the stage for Nixon, who set the stage for Reagan, who set the stage for Bush Sr., who set the stage for Bush Jr.

It all sucks. And THEY all suck/sucked! - As in sucking the air and spirit and resources out of our democracy and our economy. They are all evil/fascist/racist/miltaristic/imperialistic/corrupt/psychotic/anti-American/pathologically lying morons who have succeeded in only dumbing down America.

5. Undermined Kindness, more than founders vision
Hi,
agree with all, except that i think dems ought to get away from basing arguments on "what this country was founded on".

That anchors us in the past, and some pretty limited thinkers.

We ought to appeal to "trying to end human suffering" aka Kindness.

Who knows if this country was founded on Christianity, or on Capitalism, or whatever? Dozens of founders, hundreds of writings.

But Kindness is clear in its meaning. Also, it is a lot better than some of the "ideals" in the founding documents. When you act to end suffering, you are surely a democrat.
