WEIRD: George Gipp AND Reagan both died of pneumonia
http://www.hickoksports.com/biograph/gippgeorge.shtml

The following week, Gipp had a bad cold, and he was on the bench at the beginning of the game against Northwestern. With Notre Dame fans chanting his name, Rockne sent him into the game for a few minutes--just long enough to throw a 45-yard touchdown pass.

The cold turned out to be a streptococcus infection and the weakened Gipp contracted pneumonia. He converted to Catholicism and, with Rockne sitting beside him and the entire Notre Dame student body kneeling in the snow outside his dorm to pray for him, he died in mid-December. He was posthumously named to Walter Camp's All-American team.

His (Reagan)office said he died of pneumonia, described as a complication of Alzheimer's disease, a condition he made public in a stirring letter in 1994

1. Pneumonia is the old man's friend
(it kills you when you're ready to die)

so my father always said.

11. One was infective pneumonia
Reagan's was likelier aspiration pneumonia, with gastric contents or oral secretions inhaled into the lungs once the gag/swallow/cough reflexes are gone. It's not a nice way to go, but he was probably far beyond pain by that time.

3. I Don't See A Connection
Enlighten me...

One man was in his 20's, the other was 93. Pneumonia is a common end (and one many families hope for at that stage) of Altzheimers. Gipp's was tragic as a young man struck down in his prime. Also, one died in the 1920's...when anti-biotics were virtually unknown compared to the stem cell technology of today.

OK...now where's the link?

Cheers!

13. How About Hellcats In The Navy
Talk about lame B Movie kitsch at its worst. But, Bonzo ranks up there with Francis the Talking Mule. All these movies best caught at about 2am in a highly sedated state.

Also I think the "sexy" Nancy Davis (was she preggers yet??) was his co-star. I'm surprised Faux Classic Movies isn't running it 24/7.

14. Fortunately for us, "Hellcats" was not a Fox film,
so Fox Movie Channel doesn't have the rights to it. It's Columbia, and I believe AMC has it in their library.

BTW, TCM will be doing a Reagan tribute on Thursday, with this lineup. King's Row is actually worth seeing; David Lynch has said it was an influence on his film, Blue Velvet.

8:00 AM Love is On the Air (1937) (first starring role)
9:00 AM Accidents will Happen (1938)
10:15 AM Angels Wash Their Faces (1939)
11:45 AM Tugboat Annie Sails Again (1940)
1:15 PM Santa Fe Trail (1940)
3:15 PM One for the Book (1947)
5:00 PM Night Unto Night (1949)
6:30 PM Prisoner of War (1954)
8:00 PM Kings Row (1942)
10:15 PM Desperate Journey (1942)
12:15 AM The Last Outpost (1951)
2:00 AM John Loves Mary (1949)
3:45 AM An Angel from Texas (1940)
5:00 AM Sergeant Murphy (1938)
6:00 AM Hell's Kitchen (1939)

8. His best performance was in "King's Row"
where his character has his legs amputated.

7. George Gipp could still remember his name when he died.
By all accounts Ronnie was a vegetable long before the end.

20. Ketchup
is a good choice. It looks like blood, and because of Reagan a lot of it has been shed since 1/20/80
