How would you place the faces on U.S. currency? |
|
If I had my way, it would go like this. Presidents on bills, other important people on coins.
Bills: $1 - Washington $5 - Madison $10 - Kennedy $20 - Lincoln $50 - T. Roosevelt $100 - Jefferson
Coins: Penny - Alexander Hamilton Nickel - Susan B. Anthony Dime - Martin Luther King Quarter - Thomas Edison Half-Dollar - Neil Armstrong (or not, if you're a tinfoiler) Dollar - Benjamin Franklin
Thoughts?

1. FDR needs to stay on the dime. |
|
March of Dimes, you know.
But I like some of your choices - Thomas Edison in particular.

2. Yeah, that had occurred to me. |
|
But I like the idea of presidents on bills and other people on coins.
I wanted to include FDR and Teddy, but that would be Roosevelt overload. I think Teddy was a more important president, personally.

3. Other than your choices for the tens |
|
I approve. FDR needs to stay on the dime, in honor of the March of Dimes.
Kennedy wasn't that great a president. The first thing he did was lower the top marginal rate on the richest, thus setting the inexorable march to plutocracy and fascism in motion.
How about Einstein on the tenner? He was a humaitarian as well as a mathematician and theoretical physicist.

4. Einstein is a great choice. |
|
Although he wasn't an American citizen until later in life.
And yeah, in retrospect, Kennedy doesn't really stack up with the other presidents listed there. If I were to pick another 20th century prez it would be FDR.

5. I'd take all the people off. |
|
Put buildings -- the Capitol, the White House, whatever -- or natural monuments like the Grand Canyon, Rainbow Arch, Niagara Falls.
But I'm weird.

9. Perhaps. But Jackson was instumental in moving us from a Republic |
|
to a Democratic-Republic (or a democracy, for purists).
He didn't complete the journey, but he and his "Era of Good Feelings" gave it a good kick-start.
And Grant was the man who finally put away Bobby Lee and the Confederacy at a time when another Failed General could lead to defeat for Lincoln in 1864.
You are right in that Grant may not be the best one, but I will speak up for his accomplishments.
Yes, I know his Adminisration was almost as corrupt as the Bushevik Empire, but unlike them he loved his country and I am speaking of his feats as a General and not President.

14. Era of Good Feelings was Monroe actually |
|
Generally acknowledged to coincide with Monroes two terms.
I agree with you on Jackson though. The modern presidency was born under Jackson, and participatory Democracy really took off. There were negatives, in particular his Indian Removal policy.
As for Grant, I think his feats as a General alone qualify him for placement on th 50$ bill. Lincoln, Grant, and Sherman saved the union!!!
His Presidency, while wildly unsuccessful, was not as big a failure as is generally believed.
