he had to check with his lawyers about revealing whether there were any "other" memos that the President had seen or was involved in. Given the WaPo,NYT's and WSJ articles about "what did Bush sign off to in the "torturegate scandal" today in LBN Forum I'd say Asscroft needed to check "very carefully" with those lawyers, lest he reveal what the little Chimp was up to in abusing Executive Privilege in a "time of war."

Cat's coming out of the bag, though. Just peeking...but some of the Senators seemed to know what's at stake.

If only this could be the revelation that does it. Combine that with the Plame Leak, Chalabi, and "being above the US Law" it seems "Treason and other High Crimes and Misdemeanors" would do it.

6. Let's don't get our hopes up that this Republican-controlled Congress
will every fulfill their constitutional responsibilities and prerogatives in dealing with this Administration, in keeping the separation of powers intact for, IMHO, most of those in Congress have violated their oaths of office in furtherance of the whims and desires of this Administration to an extent it is tantamount to this nation no longer being able/willing to govern itself with one man dictating the entire agenda, the purse strings, the declaration of war authority reserved to the Congress. And yes, the Supreme Court is equally complicit IMHO, but what does one individual know?

Call CNN, Call ABC, CBS and NBC and Fox and every Clear ChaNNEL Station in your area. Keep saying it, "CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS, John."

Contempt of Congress is something everyone can understand. There is no getting around it and Ashcroft was an amazing example. He should resign or be fired this afternoon and then be held accountable.

14. The most important thing we can ALL do is TAKE ACTION
It's so easy to get off a quick bash at a fellow DUer......but calling constantly, and reminding our reps we're watching them is a better use of our time and energy.

Some time back, there was a DUer who said he had made a vow to spend 15 minutes every day writing and calling. Think what an impact it would make if we were ALL doing that!

I left a messsage for a friend today to watch C-Span. When I got home tonight, I had a message from her, exclaining what a great experience it was to watch the jerk squirming. She ended with "I've put in calls to all of them, thanking them for pressing the issue, and telling them not to let up on it."

Hehe..... once folks get used to making those calls, it becomes automatic... and a great release!

WE'll keep calling until WE Get Our Country BACK!

24. Call me Pollyanna -- I think they *are* listening
From a few of the staff reactions at various times, I think the calls *are* having an effect.

The problem is, we have to remember that the Reich Wing has been dedicated to doing this for many years now, and don't let up. They call and squaaack at *everything*. They have made themselves impossible to ignore. *That's* what we're up against..... we have to learn that if we really want our country back, we're going to have to take it seriously, and start making a lot of noise, make noise consistently, and be prepared to make it a lifestyle. It isn't a one or two shot deal. It's a commitment.

We're so used to getting bent out of shape if some small thing causes us discomfort, or requires some effort. So, the thought of having to stay on top of issues, and calling and writing continuously galls us. I don't like it either, all that much. All things being equal, I'd really rather be sailing. :)

However, to keep things in perspective, I remember the troops out there in that broiling sun, never knowing when they'll get blown to bits, and the Iraqi people themselves, having endured a hell I can't even imagine, and hunkering down while their whole country is going up in smoke, then being occupied by a foreign horde they didn't invite, and watching family and neighbors being "disappeared". Compared to all that, spending 15 minutes a day calling and/or writing really doesn't seem like all that much.

The issue is that if there are so many thousands of us who are deeply displeased that we could have such huge marches, then there are enough of us to pressure for change if we all keep at this on a daily basis. There are some great scoops here, terrific info, and it's almost a crime not to put it to use.... not just chatting back and forth among ourselves about it, but making sure that this info gets to the "fencesitters", and that our representatives in the government have absolutely no doubt what it is we are expecting from them.

I hear ya about getting too old to do all the walking. My foot hears ya, my knee hears ya, and my aching back hears ya. :) I think so many of us see just how bad the whole situation is with our nation, and want it back. It's overwhelming to see just how much needs to be done, and we get tired just thinking of all we *should* be doing. But, the fact is, we still have lives to live, and still need to find time and energy to just enjoy. So, finding our niche, as you've done with urging people to take action, is very important. You're doing a lot to Take It Back, and I applaud you.

One of the things that concerns me a great deal is the sentiment I see expressed that getting rid of Bush is the big goal. It's just the BEGINNING! We can NEVER allow ourselves to become complacent again, as so many of us did after Clinton won in 1992.

John Ashcroft's abject refusal to provide Congress with copies of or access to the torture memos relating to the Abu Ghraib and Guantanimo prison abuses is not only incredibly arrogant, but is directly in Contempt of Congress, as Senator Biden stated.

I hereby request that Congress collectively cite AG Ashcroft for Contempt, as this cannot and should not go unchallenged.

That information belongs to the people of the United States, in whose names the torture and prisoner abuse at Guantanimo and Abu Ghraib prisons, and in whose names these incredible violations of the Geneva Conventions was done.

Those photographs, those abuses, those images -- ARE US in the eyes of the world. Therefore, both the United States Congress and the people of this country have EVERY right to know how and why such abuses happened in their names - in our country's name.

This contemptable and arrogant refusal on the part of AG Ashcroft to provide the memos in question therefore should NOT stand.

Yesterday, when I called each Senator's office, the staff were very appreciative and excited. We need to take our country back and we can only do that with our voices.

I think if we start posting responses and the responses we are getting it will help and encourage us all to keep on making the calls. Yesterday and today have been positive, everyone I've talked with are tired of all Ronnie, all the time, 24/7. Is there anything else happening in this world? Oh yeah, the G8, and then there is always Iraq, anyone hearing anything from the Mid-East? What about Israel? What are they doing today. Another excursion into Gaza, maybe Rafah? What the heck?

And back to CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS delivered by Ashcroft. I want to see Ashcroft have to resign. There is nothing else left for him to do.

57. Yes, sorry I have not yet responded. I've been thinking about it alot.
We are having a meet up on Saturday, plan to talk with others there about the concept. I am very serious about this contempt of congress and disregard for the Constitution. I am not letting up on this one. Did you hear Sibel's hearing on Monday has been postphoned? Why?

Every Senator in that hearing said it and knew it, Ashcroft was in contempt of Congress and was violating our Constitution. The Republicans have not a leg to stand on. Ashcroft has to go. The Attorney General of the US violating the Constitution. What more do they need or want?

74. I just called
Biden, Durbin and Hatch for starters. I asked Hatch's aide when Hatch was going to step up to the plate and stop being a part of this fascist takeover of OUR country. I said that it appears that HE is one of the unpatriotic ones, along with many other congress critters, that are allowing our Constitution to be mangled.

Gave Mr. Biden a "thumbs-up". I asked the aide where this issue currently stands and, of course, "I don't know. I really don't know".

I got an answering machine at Durbin's office.

The operators are sounding a bit harried this morning...hopefully it is because the phone lines are flooded with our calls.

Keep fighting the good fight, DUer's...:yourock:

Biden was talking about why we have treaties. He was rightously pissed off.
