9.9% unemployment rate in Canton, Ohio
Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 01:26 PM by Seemann For Congress
This was not a statistic you would read in the Canton Repository, but it's true. Canton, Ohio had a 9.9% unemployment rate in the month of April.

And this was BEFORE Timken Company announced 1,300 jobs would be leaving when they close three plants next year.

This was BEFORE last week, when the Hoover Company slashed 500 jobs through redundancies that will be absorbed in Iowa.

What kind of a ghost town will this become if things do not change? Flint, Michigan will be a city we look up to if we cannot change the tide.

I work for Jeff Seemann, who many of you know here as AWD. He's running for US House of Representatives in Ohio's 16th District, and the largest city in the 16th CD is Canton, Ohio. His opponent last week said that it was a proper indicator of a recovery when "more people start eating at McDonald's." He then referred to Mickey D's as "the place where all the fatsos eat." We wish we were making that up.

Jeff's website recently was updated, and I'd like to invite you to visit and see for yourself. Come visit us at http://www.jeffseemannforcongress.com or http://sendjefftocongress.com (and if you are so inclined, drop us a contribution).

Canton, Ohio needs help. Jeff Seemann has a plan to turn this country around. Help him out.

1. Go Jeff!
All of 16th District of Ohio should support Jeff Seemann -- not the fatso Regula.

4. Jeff's office
In Jeff's office, there is a picture of his assistant Kristine. It was taken last year when Kristine was in DC being honored as an outstanding member of FFA and the Washington Leadership Council. Standing next to her is Congressman Ralph Regula.

Jeff loves that picture. It's quite ironic, seeing someone Regula was honoring and she is now working on his opponent's staff.

16. Get back to work
Or I'm telling Jeff you're slacking off during work time.

OK, so I won't since I'm doing the same thing.

(slinkerwink works for Jeff too, for those who don't know)

2. as an Ohioan I hope you have that on tape
I know, from seeing people on the streets, that people here are heavy. The 'fatso' vote alone could turn a moderately close race.

3. It's such a shame that the Republican territory of Ohio
insists on continually voting for Repugs, dragging the rest of the populace down the drain.

5. Wow, a PROGRESSIVE in Canton?? I'll see what I can scrape up to donate.
I live just north of Canton, in Akron. Outsiders often regard Canton and Akron as "twin cities" of sorts, but it's kinda hard for me to see that connection, given that Akron has made many strides towards reinventing and reinvigorating itself, while Canton has simply stagnated and declined. We lost most of our major industry between the 80s up to the mid 90s, and yet Akron has probably never been stronger. I always thought Canton could use some of the progressive leadership that has kept Akron alive and moving forward. Jeff Seemann sounds like he'll be a breath of fresh air for the entire Canton area.

7. No he can't
Akron isn't in that district. It got split between Sherrod Brown and Ryan.

14. We absolutely hated that, too.
The Ohio GOP knows Akron is the most successful Democratic stronghold in the state, so they split Rep. Tom Sawyer's district between Lorain and Youngstown, throwing Sawyer into a battle for a district with its base of power now situated in the Mahoning Valley. Not surprisingly, Sawyer lost in the primaries to Tim Ryan. It seems that Youngstown wasn't particularly impressed with Sawyer's vote for NAFTA. Go figure. At least we're still represented by Dems, and Sherrod Brown has been very supportive of the city. But nothing beats having your own hometown congressman.

23. I would love to host, but my house is a bit far south
I will volunteer to bring hot dogs, burgers and the fixings if someone can come up with a date and location. I'll even throw in a side dish or two.

Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 02:31 PM by WLKjr
I would love to have a chance to make Ohio a better place and become a person my fellow Ohioans would respect greatly and support to no end.

My Mantra:

on edit:

down around the Lima area, I have heard about Seeman for congress and his progressive views.

20. But wait, I thought John Snow, just two weeks ago, said...
..."Ohio is comin' back STRONG!"

This was said in response to MSNBC anchor Chris Jansing asking him how he thought Ohio voters felt about taking crap jobs for $10,000 less than they made in their last one in order to survive.
