2:30 PM....ONLY 180 voters out of 4500 registered have VOTED today

at my local polling place in Virginia....hopefully, more voters will come to vote soon.....I vote at a library, and when you enter...there are LOTs of 'Hail george w. bush*' books prominently displayed on the library 'special great books' display...included "george w. bush*'s FAITH"

such a horrible turn-out will certainly allow bush* to win the White House this year....and implement MORE WARS and the draft....

if you want bush* out...then STAND UP and VOTE today in Virginia...

i wouldn't make too much of this.

6. bull...voting TODAY in Virginia is one of the ONLY ways that you
can guarantee that YOU have not been purged off the voting rolls, making YOU ineligible to vote in November....

voting today in Virginia will guarantee that YOU are properly registers at your current address, AND on the voter rolls for November....anyone who will not vote today, or is encouraged NOT to vote by DU people, should not be surprised to find out that they will NOT be allowed to vote in November....there's only ONE way to assure that YOU have not been purged (and Virginia has so many reasons for purging, it make Florida look like angels....in VA, you can be purged simply for not voting)....

27. I don't see anything wrong with purges
Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 04:03 PM by Beatrix
Believe it or not voting rolls have been purged in this country for around the past 200 years. People act like this is something new.

Obviously you have to purge the rolls. It is law that convicted felons can not vote. So how can that law be enforced if their names are not removed from the rolls? People die. Should Abe Lincoln and George Washington still be on the voting rolls? They'd be getting damn big if so.

I don't live in VA. But if your state has law that states you can be purged for not voting and you don't like it then write your state congress people and ask them to change the law.

The ONLY time you have legit reason to complain about a purge is if that purge was done in a manner NOT allowed by law. (i.e. you purged anyone who was black for that sole reason)

2. Sorry, I don't keep up with red/blue states. What is Virginia? I want
to know before I start really worrying. I want to have good voter turnout for Democrats everywhere but the blue or states in contest are REALLY VITAL. I live in Kansas and we democrats have NO chance.

9. we are FIGHTING for Virginia...and YOU are discouraging people
from voting for Kerry already.....

it is a very nasty approach to get on DU and discourage people repetitively from voting for the winner KERRY....

Since we got Kerry a BIG WIN in the Virginia primary....it is totally absurd for ANY other state to claim they have no chance....

even your next door reTHUGlican state of Colorado is now a swing state and WILL go for Kerry....your discouragement of Kerry voters is transparent and not appreciated here....

IMO, and I'll say it here over and over, and others will join me too, in order to overcome your memememe....

KERRY WINS IN KANSAS !!!

15. Don't be silly. This was no meme. And I am going to be helping
in all the LOCAL campaigns for democrats, I gave money to Kerry, I gave money to Boyda (running against puky Jim Ryun)... So don't tell me I am not a democrat or a "traitor" to Kerry (you sound like a repug when you talk like that not knowing whom you are talking to). But I know KANSAS. I have lived here for too many years not to know that. I campaigned for our governor and we won. WE DO HAVE A DEMOCRATIC governor because the repug was too repugnant even for left of extreme-right republicans. Most Kansans have a strong belief in the war meme (to use your word) and are not listening or reading any other news except the corporate news. With the silly ELECTORAL college thingy, I will vote for Kerry, campaing for all the democrats but I don't think this would be ones of those states in play.

20. Virginia usually solid red, but it's become BATTLEGROUND!
It's one of the more shocking developments of the election so far. Virginia is usually pretty safe territory for GOP Presidential candidates; it hasn't gone Democratic since LBJ in 1964. However, the latest polls show Bush leading by as few as TWO POINTS. Kerry has started to pour ad dollars into the state.

For the first time in decades, Virginia is in play!

The fact that Bush is going to have to fight to keep Virginia is a very bad omen for the GOP.

3. People are distracted
With Reagan and all, I wouldn't worry about it. But I do hope you're in touch with the Dem Party and making sure they've got a GOTV strategy for November. That's going to take every single Democrat doing whatever they can to register voters and get people to the polls. Nobody can sit on the sidelines in this election, that's for sure.

But seriously, perhaps people see little reason in voting in the primaries now.

7. I'm sure it's because late primaries don't matter.
I wish all state primaries would bee closer together. When the candidate is choses so many months ago, it's very hard to get people to be enthusiastic enough to go out the door.

The big problem with this is the effect it has on local elections, but they get so little publicity, noone seems to think about it.

16. in Virginia , YOU may find out that YOU are purged off voting rolls
in November....

Virginia has more reasons for purging than Florida does...and you can be purged in Virginia simply for NOT voting...

so, your efforts here today to discourage people from voting are a thinly disguised attempt to get bush* re-selected....

VOTING TODAY in Virginia is the ONLY way to guarantee that YOU will be allowed to vote in November...

22. OH GOODNESS! I sure wasn't trying to discourage people!!!
On the contrary, I want everybody to vote in every election, no matter how small or what the reason.

I have never missed an election since I was 21 and I'm now 61. Some votes really seemed like a waste of time because there was one little thing on the ballot, and very very few people bothered.

I must admit, I never thought about people being purged off the voter rolls. I know it can happen but I thought it was only done when someone haden't voted for several years of election cycles.

Maybe that's not the case anymore because "somebody" has figured out this is one way to eliminate voters who only go during Presidential elections because they aren't the real partisans and probably would vote for the Dem.

had a Democratic primary to decide the congressional Dem candidate. The candidates were James Moran, the incubent, and Andy Rosenberg a challanger who has run on Republican tickets before.

don't know where YOUR voting location is...

but you can call 1-800-552-9745 (VA State Board of Elections)
to get the number for YOUR Voter Registration Office...or call info at 411...

then, YOU can ask YOUR local Voter Registration Office: where do YOU vote and WHO is on the ballot??

it would just take a few strokes on YOUR keyboard, a 'little' effort to find out all the info that YOU need to STAND UP and be a PATRIOT today....

23. Feb. 10, Virginia voted majority for KERRY, and minority for Edwards
Edited on Tue Jun-08-04 03:21 PM by amen1234

February 10th was the Primary elections for the USA President candidates.

A candidate must win AT LEAST 15% of the vote, in order to win 'votes' for the Democratic Covention in BOSTON....(sort of like the electorial college)....

Kerry won the majority....Edwards won second, to the Democratic Convention, and no other candidate won any (all got LESS THEN 15% of the vote)....so Virginia's VOTES at the Convention, go majority for Kerry, and a much lesser number for Edwars (it's about 3 to 1, Kerry to Edwards)....

Today, June 8th, we are voting in the primary in Virginia for OUR candidates for the United States House of Representatives....so anytime there is MORE THAN ONE candidate running for either Democrat or Republic ticket, those candidates are having a primary runoff today for selection by VA voters....the winner today will run AGAIN in November, ONE reTHUGlican winner against ONE Democratic Winner....

24. Thanks for the explanation!
By the way, today is June 8th!

I still find two different primaries odd but I suppose it relates to need to conform to DNC delegate selection plan or something. Certainly not a very good way to increase turn out.

25. thanks...fixed it....to clarify....Feb. 10th VA Democratic Primary was
the very FIRST binding Democratic Primary EVER HELD in the STATE OF Virginia...

the whole thing was a MAJOR achievement for the Democratic Party in Virginia...and the reTHUGlicans made it all as difficult as they possibly could...

so, sorry that you have to make a 'little' effort to vote TWO times....but it is a very small price to pay for OPENING UP the Democratic Vote in the State of Virginia....

many people just don't understand that the REAL HARD WORK is behind the scenes...by opening up the primaries, so the selections are now made OUT IN THE PUBLIC VIEW, and not in cigar-smoking back rooms by the powerful reTHUGlican tobacco plantation owners in Virginia....

it's open NOW, it's a different ballgame...STAND UP and VOTE today in Virginia...there is still time TODAY....
