When Clinton and Carter pass away |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 01:35 PM by ih8thegop
When they pass away, I'm guessing one or both of them will lie in state at the rotunda and/or at their library. I think I will go see one or both of them lie in state and/or go to their funeral.
If it takes twelve hours for me to get to their casket, so what? I will take as long as it takes for me to pay my respects.

2. And all the people on our side will complain about what the right says... |
|
They'll quote FreeRepublic postings insulting both guys, and act really self-righteous about not respecting the dead. Kind of sad really.

3. Pay respects to Carter while he is alive. Help Habitat for Humanity |
|
I have seen what it does for some poor people and it is amazing. Not just the families getting the homes, but everyone they have come and put in sweat equity gets a real boost too. It is an amazing thing and possibly one of Carter's greatest gifts to all of us.

that President Carter's wishes are to forgo a State Funeral, but President Clinton will not. With Bill's luck & longevity - Chelsea might preside over his.

7. Clinton's only 58, so I'll be an old woman by the time he dies. |
|
Ex-presidents seem to live long lives... must be that excellent health care they receive? I imagine Big Dog will live to be in his 90's, which means I'll probably be in my 70's when I make the trek to his funeral.
And dammit, I'm making the trek to his funeral, no matter how damned old I am. :D

the press will talk endlessly about their "failed presidencies". We will see more pictures of Khomeini than Carter and more pictures of Monica than Clinton.

Especially Carter because of his humanitarian efforts. He has been a bright light of what Americans CAN be like for the rest of the world to see. My husband and I both believe he was just too nice of a guy for Washington DC. Compare his post-Presidency years to those of Bush Sr. The epitome of "sharp contrast".
Don't get me wrong, in the distant future, when Clinton dies, I will mourn him too. It was actually during his tenure that I got more involved in politics. The behavior of the right-wing so disgusted me I decided to work toward shutting them down. I had no idea I was signing on to what is shaping up to be a life-long project.

10. Clinton and Carter weren't Whores for rich bigots |
|
Anything the right wing will say will be an extension of their lying bullshit and should be refuted as strongly as we are refuting the cannonization of the creep Reagan. When Did Reagan ever mourn for the deaths he caused by his neglect and corporatist, international meddling? The Dead Reagan tour is an abomination and should be stifled and unfunded by any of the sacrifices of the majority of Americans who were left to die as a result of Reagan's neglect, indifference, and maligned by his arrogant, counterfeit nationalism.
Clinton and Carter deserveour respect and praise for their commitments to resolving the plights of ordinary Americans. Bless them.
