The Republican Party is the party of Lincoln...
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 11:56 PM by FDRrocks
It is also:

The Party of the Great Depression.

The Party that supports breaking and entering in the name of Politics.

The Party of school children eating a nutritious lunch consisting of ketchup.

The Party of deficit spending.

The Party of regressive economics. (Trickle on me? Fuck you Trump!)

The Party of "morality", which encompasses a hatred for people who are poor or homosexual.

The Party of UNION BUSTING. (A clear view that they represent the few over the many)

The Party of PREEMPTIVE WAR. (Wonder when that was last implemented?)

The Party of unilateralism.

The Party opposed to public education.

The Party of fiscal irresponsibility.

The Party that only gained power in the south b/c Johnson, with all of his failings, had the nuts to sign for the rights of minorities.

The Party of Watergate, IRAN-CONTRA, WMD'S, YELLOW CAKE, ETC.

The Party that gave birth to the Taliban.

The Party that sold Saddam chemical weapons (currently called WMD's), which he used to gas the Kurdish people.

The Party that, while doing the above, funded the Iranian side of the war.

The Party that, according the "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" accepted Nazi money to further the purpose of isolationism during World War 2.

The Party that whole-heartedly supports a president not popularly elected. The people be damned, the electoral college owns it. (Similar to the view of unions)

The Party of the PATRIOT ACT.

The Party that limits personal freedom (see above) while preaching economic freedom, while also devaluing the dollar through thier horrible economic policies.

The Party of pork.

Feel free to add to this, and/or correct me.

1. Correction...
the Republican Party WAS the party of Lincoln. Just as the Democratic Party was the party of John C. Calhoun and Jefferson Davis. But a century passes, and what happens? The Democrats are getting the Civil Rights Act passed, and the Republicans come out against it.

5. Suspension of habeas corpus...
dispatch of Federal troops to border states to ensure the elections came out the "right" was...smashing of presses and imprisonment of critical newspaper editors...yeah...not quite the idol of freedom he's painted as (I've actually seen extremists who call Lincoln a "fascist hero"), but things seem to've turned out well enough (and the wartime measures were ended after cessation of hostilities).

6. Great sig!
Party ideals may vary from year to year (or century to century)but the ideas and philosophies are constant. I only hope that we can get back to the ideals that Lincoln believed in.

7. I agree with your points, but 1 correction
BOTH parties love pork; the Repubs have no monopoly.

Robert Byrd, Daniel Inouye, & Ted Stevens are probably the 3 biggest porkers in Senate history.

9. Much of the heinous stuff that occured in the last 3 years
has been under bipartisan leadership. The same can be said for most of the Reagan era.
