Planes Crashing into Buildings - Fatwas on Website May 2001
Anyone know about this trial in Idaho? Only place I've seen covered is in Richard Mellon Scaife's paper. Interesting and I'm wondering if DU'ers have more info.

Jurors in the terrorism trial of Saudi student Sami Omar Al-Hussayen have reached a decision on some charges but remain at an impasse on others.

<snip>

Al-Hussayen, 34, is charged with two counts of conspiracy to provide material support for terrorism and one count of proving material support to the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. He faces seven counts of visa fraud and four of making false statements to federal authorities.

<snip>

Analysts consider it a landmark test of the post-9/11 USA Patriot Act, which allows the government to prosecute those suspected of providing "material support" to terrorism as well as those who carry out attacks.

<snip>

Prosecutors contend he used his computer skills to establish a network of Islamic Web sites for the Michigan-based Islamic Assembly of North America that promoted a radical Islamic ideology and supported terrorist groups. Key evidence included four fatwas -- Islamic edicts -- that endorsed suicide attacks and were posted on an IANA site in May 2001, four months before 9/11.

One of those called for airplanes to be crashed into "enemy" targets.

:kick: Thought this might be of interest. I don't remember seeing anything about this case except in Dicky Mellon Scaife's rag.
