Compare and Contrast: Why Reagan's Death is Going to Hurt *.
I just saw this quote on, of all places, Sean Hannity's website. It pretty much sums up why Dubya is in big trouble.

"Whatever else history may say about me when I’m gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears; to your confidence rather than your doubts."
-Ronald Reagan

1. Agreed
Its a waste of time for DUers to be bashing Reagan (talk about preaching to the choir). The Bush scum will not hesitate to use Reagan's death for their own political ends & we should do the same. Use the Reagan Myth against them. The quote in the original post says it all. Reagan was an optimist whereas Bush* offers nothing but fear and hatred. Reagan was the Nation's Grandfather but Bush* is the drunken asshole Uncle no-one likes etc.

2. On the Today Show this morning, even O'Reilly admitted
that people were lined up for hours to see RR because they were nostalgic for a time when they could be proud of the U.S. It was as much an admission that this Administration has brought shame on the US!

3. It certainly took the wind out of W's sails for the week.

Don't forget: the weekend Reagan died was supposed to be W's big moment to look Presidential and dignified at Normandy. They networks were all set to go wall-to-wall with coverage of his speech and his reception in Europe. Kerry would have been hamstrung by the courtesy of not attacking the President when overseas, so it would have been an all-W news cycle for a few days.

Instead, they only played a clip of his speech and W gets very little out of what could have been a great photo-op for him. Awesome!

4. Great point. W is appealing to fear in his words. . .
He keeps repeating words like "terrorists" "killers" "evil", etc. in his speeches and remarks.

And remember, Reagan had been an admirer of FDR, who also appealed to our hopes, rather than our fears.
