The Efforts To Rename Every Building After Reagan Are Cynical Ploys...
for partisan gain that put the Republicans in a no-lose situation.

No matter how silly and excessive it may seem, those who propose the name-changes will win. They will either get their wish, and every building in Washington will be renamed after Ronald Reagan... or in the event that their proposal is defeated or not adopted, they can hang some sort of 'Scarlet Letter' on those who opposed it.

Anyone who challenges the excessiveness will be brandished as a "Reagan Hater" or "unpatriotic" or "communist" or "cold-war-lover"... you name it!

WHAT'S NEXT? Shall we rename the White House? (Ronald Reagan Executive Office Building)

1. And anything that is changed
will involve the expense of the change of street signs, metro signs, bus signs, etc.

And I don't have to remind you who will be paying for that. It's just like the D.C. License Plate says, "Taxation without Representation"

3. National Airport
That was the reason National Airport resisted the change for so long. All the reprinting costs for signs, brochures, and maps. And I think the Metro had to spend something like half a mil to change all their maps and brochures too.

Fucking idiots. I still call it National Airport.

5. Same Here... It's "National" To Me... Or DCA...
and I sometimes think the folks at WTOP are making a conscious decision to continue to call it "National" whenever they give local weather and temperatures.

7. I saw a Reagan supporter comparing how many buildings
or schools or highways and streets are named after MLK, Jr. He stated that first they wanted a major state building in eveyr state, then eveyr major city until Reagan surpassed MLK since Reagan was such a great President. He wants 1000's of buildings, schools, and roads named for him. How long until a national holiday is suggested?

9. They'll win if we don't smarten up... we should be countering these

attempts with Reagan's own supposed words/goals/philosophy. That Reagan supposedly wanted smaller government, we simply state the cost of changing the names, making the new bills, etc., etc., and start a PR campaign to honor Reagan by advancing his own "philosophy." Saving money allows for reductions in government in other areas or to send the savings to the military-- his own objectives! Hell, we can "outhonor" the RW with these proposals if necessary.

And, when it still gets too out of hand, I think we could enlist Nancy, Ron and Patti-- as has already been shown with the "reagan dime," and some of the other silliness. What we CAN'T win with is arguing he already has an airport named after him, and all the other. Because the RW will never have ENOUGH. FIGHT WITH REAGAN'S own words and honoring that "supposed" philosophy.
