Ray Charles AT THE GOP Convention.
Truly unbelievable piece of political manuevering on C-SPAN. I don't normally watch this channel, so I was taken back by choice. Ray Charles dies, much to his misfortune just days after Reagan does. So how do they give tribute to Ray Charles? By sticking a shot of him playing at a GOP Convention attended by Reagan and Nancy.

Why are black people always playing second fiddle to white characters? Poor Ray. Wasn't he important enough to have his own tribute?

But your point is taken. Don't Raygunize/politicize poor Ray.

3. "Don't Raygunize/politicize poor Ray"
That's right. Unfortunately, most Americans form their opinions based on images. I can assure you that by the end of the week, everyone will think that Ray Charles was a Republican. Even if he was, I doubt that was the most important feature of his life.

4. I saw that. Turned on C-Span hoping for something besides Reagan,
and I saw Ray and thought it was odd they would be mentioning his death on C-Span, until the camera panned back and I realized it was the Repug Convention.

Unbelievably crass for them to use Ray Charles death as a tribute to the Repugs. They could have shown any other picture of Ray or any other performance but they used his death, for opportunity. Then followed it with a person of color who has written a book about Reagan and from the little I heard before I tuned out, she seemed to be praising him...so I guess it's still all Reagan all the time there.

6. I liked the caller who made the point regarding Oliver North.
The woman on C-SPAN did seem a little bit flustered and was quick to point out that Oliver North wasn't really involved with the upper levels of Reagan's staff, he just did a lot of things.

<cough> <plausible deniability> <cough>

7. Was it Ray who would not sing
a song for Bush at the WH without extra compensation?
