Can anyone tell me how many 21 Gun Salutes

there have been for Reagan...I have personally seen three and imagine there will be another at the burial - were there any leaving CA...just one question how many 21 gun salutes does a guy need? 2 at Andrews coming and going - one at the Capitol going maybe there was one when he arrived - just looking for a total here.

Look..I've not posted a single snippy thing about Ronald Reagan all week out of respect although I deplored him, believe his war crimes far outweigh his benefits to America and think he did more harm than good in the long run (and an accurate view of history will bear me out eventually.)

So to answer your question, there have been and will be a lot of 21-gun salutes.

16. Gun salute protocol

This is for all situations where gun salutes are fired.

A president, including a deceased one, receives 21 guns upon arriving and departing an area. The manual doesn't cover situations where more than one president is in attendance; my bet is everyone's saluted by the same 21 guns. (If they had to salute Carter, Clinton, Bush the Elder, Monkeyboy and Reagan individually, they'd call it a barrage.)

A vice president receives 19 guns upon arrival, no guns at departure.

At 5pm today, all military installations that have cannon will fire 50 guns.

Hence...he got 21 guns when he left California, 21 guns when arriving at Andrews, 21 when leaving for the Capitol, 21 at his arrival at the Capital, another 21 on his departure, another 21 when he returned to Andrews, still ANOTHER 21 when his plane departed Andrews, another 21 when he returned to California...I think you get the idea.

They didn't fire that many rounds in the Siege on Fallujah.

Bad war story follows: At Fort Devens, when it was open, there was a 75mm pack howitzer mounted below the flagpole. And in post commander Colonel Kattar's infinite wisdom, he decided that it would instill patriotic and martial pride in the trainees if they lowered the color and fired the gun at retreat. (They'd sound Retreat, we'd fire the gun, To the Color would sound and we'd strike the color.)

Some numb-nuts who was attempting to lead me astray said it would be a real good idea to put a golf ball in the charge. I see nothing... So he put the golf ball in the charge, charged the piece and waited for Retreat to sound.

At 4:58 the two-minute warning sounded. Oh shit...what happens if we get caught?

At 5:00 Retreat sounded.
At 5:00 and 30 seconds, the NCOIC made his hand motion and we fired the gun.
At 5:00 and 40 seconds, the golf ball made its way across the 20-acre parade field and shot out Colonel Kattar's office window.
