For those who watched, who Wasn't at the Funeral? Might be interesting .
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 07:40 PM by KoKo01
I didn't see Ted Kennedy (maybe Caroline was chosen to represent the family, but no Ted). I didn't spot Condi Rice, either. I watched the C-Span view of the Funeral so I wouldn't have to listen to the comments and could focus on who was there and their interactions.

How many Democrats were absent, I wonder. And, it's interesting that there were almost no people of color except foreign representatives. Two of the Military Pallbearers seemed to be African-American but that was it. I don't count Clarence Thomas and Colin Powell.

I wonder if few Democrats were invited, or they declined. Anyone else notice anyone missing who would usually be at a State Funeral?

1. how many made the long trek to the west coast
I'm sure they were all at the DC National Cathedral for the "service"

And didn't I hear the gravesite service was to be small and by invite only?

3. It's the DC National Cathedral Service I'm talking about. That was the
big one today.

2. Most of congress was there, so Ted was probably there
I saw Kerry talking with Dawg and JC. Interesting point, The presidents all greeted each other, and even poppy and crashcart shook Big Dawg's hand when they sat down. All except for shrub, who just walked in and sat down. The only person he acknowledged was Nancy, and that was because he "escorted her" to her seat.

in California while he was out for his daughter's graduation?

27. That's great! Thanks for the pix. I guess the camera feed didn't want to
dwell on many of the Democrats. I looked and looked for Kerry (and he's hard to miss since he's so tall, but didn't see him) and they showed Gore once, but not Tipper. It was shot from the side or cropped.

I think there might have been only one camera feed, because I flipped a couple of times to CNN and MSNBC after the service had ended and the folks were leaving the Cathedral, and it was the same camera angle.

Repug Cameraperson or "orders from the TOP" ....try to avoid the Dems.

I saw Madeline Allbright leaving alone walkin with an umbrella. I thought it was kind of sad she was alone, and wondered if it was because so few Dems were invited. That's what made me post this.

4. Hillary was missing.
It seems she should have been there with her husband as a former First Lady, if not as a Senator. She must have known Reagan as well as any other Dem there. No criticism, just an observation. Everything is so political these days; who knows, she may not have been permitted to attend.

I did notice the lack of diversify also. But that's not unusual since he didn't have many minorities around him in life either.

22. Barbara Bush's choice of color compared to the other First Ladies...
She felt the need to wear a light colored suit while the rest of the women wore tasteful black outfits. At least it was not polka-dotted. What is her problem - is there a need to call attention to herself?

29. Stupid Ollie....
made a statement that he wasn't going because his being there would take attention away from the service itself. What an asshole. It's amazing to me that after watching quite a bit of this, I have yet to see Nancy, Ron Jr or Patty even make eye contact with Michael, much less speak to him. Very strange bunch, all of them.

17. Honestly, no offense, KoKo01,...but, I really don't care.
"Glorification", whether engaged by presence or absence,...is,...just beyond me. Every time yet ANOTHER topic is post about an individual who has passed,...I just feel burn-out at the "glorification", whether by presence or absence, through feeling or thought.

There are so many other individuals who are deserving of our attention, as well. I am tired of witnessing so much energy, whether negative or positive or anything in between, being spent on just this one human being. My comfort is knowing that it will pass.
