if that was the start of a war, then i think that qualifies as a war zone.
which perhaps shows how silly calling an large-scale police action a "war" really is, but that's another story.

Puh-leeze. 9/11 was, what, two and a half years ago? Since then, nobody has attacked Washington (okay, anthrax, but that's it) and you can hardly make the argument that people having guns in Iraq is the same thing as a formal military salute in Washington, DC. I mean, seriously, we liberals have bigger fish to fry than this, don't we?

Read a lot about how in many US cities, many people each year die from bullet wounds from shots fired in the air miles away.
Can't stop the law of physics!
The stuff shot at ceremonies are blanks - only gunpowder - no ammo.
